ACTIVstudio 2 Professional Edition is released today. It will be shipping with new boards and will be available by application from the Sales Office as a CD.

Please use this forum to post your comments about this new software

We are getting new boards installed shortly. Can the Activstudio2 software that comes with new boards be used to upgrade our existing boards or is there seperate upgrade CD?

There will be a slight delay before recent purchasers receive the AS2 version "in the box". We would encourage you to ring the sales office, explain and request the new version. This will be sent out foc.

The best advice is to say keep logging on and as soon as it is available it will be announced.

It would be very foolish to give out a date :D

We have experienced some delays with promised access to resources. We should have this sorted out over the 6 weeks holiday and hopefully it will be announced as available Sept 1st

AS2 looks great! I have a question though. Will AS2 be able to read files created in version 1? If so, will the file still be able to be used on systems that still have version 1 once it has been opened in Version 2?

Glad you like it - so do we smile.gif

AS2 will be able to open anything.... if you resave your flp whilst in AS2 then you will have effectively "lost" it to AS1.

Best thing to do is to "protect" your AS1 flps by making copies for use in AS2.

AS2 converts AS1 flipcharts into the new format on opening.. This is pretty painless - but it does seem to lose AS1 fill points... So any shape that you filled in AS1 will just appear as an outline in AS2...

So a little tweaking will be required once you've got it in AS2.

As Margaret says, when you save it, it will be saved in AS2 format.. so its best to save it with a different name to protect your AS1 versions...

Can ActivPrimary files be opened in AS2?

We hope to have four new boards installed soon in our primary school, to add to an existing pair & I am trying to decide which software to go with across them all.

I have always preferred AS1 to AP. Should I now go for AS2?

Any advice or suggestions welcome.

Yes they can! :D

However, if I can just put in my twopennyworth.

My experience of all of the primary schools where I have been, that without exception AP has been received and utilised brilliantly. It is easy for everyone to get going with and is entirely suitable for the Primary Curriculum. graemlins/icon_biggrin.gif

Also my experience is that the impact of the software is so much stronger and effective if one platform is chosen. Everybody can use AP and if there are those of the staff who can cope with its advanced features so much the better. graemlins/icon_lol.gif

Once all of the staff are "flying" then is the time to consider perhaps offering AS2 at top of KS2. AS2 comfortably builds on AP, with all of the features, but more importantly the way it operates so clearly offering the next step up. graemlins/wave.gif

Obviously it is your decision, but I thought it worth saying especially in a Primary school where perhaps a mixed staff is inevitable, in terms of ability/knowlege/comfort etc.

OK, thanks for the above reply.
I think I will go with ActivPrimary across the school for continuity.
Having had lots of experience, I'd like to go with AS2 for myself though, maybe alongside AP.

Vice-versa then, if I create files in AS2 can they be opened by other staff in ActivPrimary?

My understanding is that ACTIVprimary and ACTIVstudio 2 can open each others flipcharts. ACTIVstudio 2 has additional functions that ACTIVprimary does not support - I believe that ACTIVprimary simply ignores any additional ACTIVstudio 2 functionality it does not understand - without causing errors.
