Hi!
I've been thinking about those (traditional) power point presentations in which one is able to make sentences "pop up" onto the screen (one by one)...you know what I mean?
Which tools could I use in activstudio to create such effects.
Thanks in advance

There is a great action in version 3 called show object.

Basically, you type in the text in separate fields.
Then create a "button" that would show the field.
Make the fields invisible. (Properties)
Make the button's action show object and choose of the the three fields.
Then duplicate the button and change which object it shows.
Then save. (You can use the reset button to hide everything - reset will take you back to the last saved version.)I have created a quick flipchart to show how this works. Let me know if you need more detail.

Thanks Lisa for sharing. I saw Peter demonstrate this in Houston last year, and have often wondered how I could replicate what I saw. I know what I'll be working on this weekend.

I think what zeca is ideally looking at is a pop up sequence like powerpoint.
I guess that would be a feature wish list.
Ideally it would be cool to have the option to make a host of objects become visible sequentially in a timed-sequence fashion like a chain event, after one pen touch.

I think that would be neat.

Certainly you wouldn't want something that just runs and runs without any input or interaction from students or teachers. I am always worried about Activstudio becoming TOO much like powerpoint as a presentation tool versus a interactive tool.

That being said, I wonder in the future could on action call upon the action of other items.

For example, if I had these three actions to show the three text fields, I could then create a button that would call in sequence the other three buttons.

Or make one action object perform MULTIPLE actions.)

Or...personally, I would also love to have one action performed on rollover an another when clicked upon. Say, each word in a sentence is HOT and as I roll my pen over the word, it says itself (or in another language) but if I click on the word, something else could happen.

We would, however, run the risk of making Activstudio so complex that beginners would be afraid to tackle it at all.

Thanks Lisa for helping me! I'll be following your hints.

Can you find the Man in the Map? I demonstrated this action today, and it was a big hit with our teachers. Thanks again Lisa.

And, of course if you want to make the text/object invisible again after you have made it visible, you simply add the opposite action to the object itself, so that it hides when cilcked.

This is useful when you want to have multiple hidden objects and don't want them all visible at the same time.

This is my general workaround for not being able to have a single object with 2 actions - a separate object calls the new object, and the new object has the other action.

If I have assigned an action "hide" to Object1, then how can I add a negative action 'show" to Object 1 again?

Only way to repeate the hide/show sequence again is to reset the page and then click Object 1 again.

Am I missing anything here?

Yes, you can't add a second action to an object, so as Dentje says:
And, of course if you want to make the text/object invisible again after you have made it visible, you simply add the opposite action to the object itself, so that it hides when cilcked.

So you have to have a button to show the object and an action on the object itself to hide itself. (Unless I'm missing something here too!)

The action to show it again has to come from another object. It's sometimes a good idea to 'hide' the action by giving it to something already in the flipchart like text.

here's an example I just made. Click the fish to hide. Click the green button to show.

An easy way is to put the dot points progressively on new pages.
That is, point 1 on page 1, points 1 & 2 on page 2, points 1, 2 & 3 on page 3 etc. Not fancy but it works.

Wow! Can we incorporate voice to read text in ActiveStudio?

Lots to learn,
Dana

Yep. Just use the Sound recorder from the Toolstore (Main Menu > Customise > Toolstore and drag it on to your Toolbox). You or your students can record the text and a sound button will drop onto the page. Position it where you want and even put it over the text and make it transparent so that it appears you click on the text and hear it read. Search the forum for sound Recorder and you'll get http://www.prometheanplanet.com/common/html/vb_forum/search.php?searchid=63918

There's lots to learn! Try www.prometheanlearning.com for some formal training. The foundation course is free.[clap][clap]

The sequence on this flipchart Page (save into My Pages, open from an existing Flipchart...) can be 'run' in order from start to finish OR you can click an intermediate point and ask the students to PREDICT the previous event, then click the empty space before that to show the answer.

Another way to do this is to add 2 buttons, 1 to show the object and a second button to hide the object.

Another way to achieve the powerpoint transitions is to spread the build ups over a number of pages so that page 1 shows bullet 1, page 2 -bullet 1 and 2 etc. The best way to achieve this is to make the page with all the bullets first then copy and paste the page, gradually deleting the last point. The bullets will then be positioned in exactly the right place and not appear to shift. Then re-arrange the pages and don't forget to choose your page transition by right clicking over the page tools.
There are 2 disadvantages of doing it this way, 1) takes more pages, 2) any annotations on a page will not be displayed when you turn to the next page.

Another way to make the bullets is to use one page, have each bullet draggable from the side using an arrow. You can also use the restrictors to horizontal only.
