Hi,
My promethean board is newly installed and for the first few hours was working fine.

Now when I am using the pen (in activstudio) the right click menu keeps appearing for no apparent reason. This is making the board very difficult to use.

I have tried rebooting the PC, powering down the board and using different pens, but I am still having this problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Jane

(Activote v3.0.73 running on windows XP)

The most common reason this happens is because the button on the pen is being pushed. I believe there is a way you can disable the button, but I can't remember.

If not, you may want to try to go to your dashboard and check for an updated software version. (I am currently having a little trouble with this step right now, but it might work for you).

To disable the pen button: select the 'Configure' tab on the dashboard, click on 'Toolstore', drag the mouse icon from the toolstore to the menu (which is at the right hand side of the toolstore on my pc). Click 'Finish' to close the toolstore.

If you click the mouse icon on the menu now it will disable the right click function! :)

Thanks for your help.

The button on the pen is not being pushed, and does not seem to be faulty as I have had the same result with 4 other pens.

If I disable the right click function, does this mean I will not be able to right click at all?
Obviously there are times when I want to right click, but as it stands its happening everytime the pen goes near the board!

Thanks again,
Jane

Don't worry, if you disable the mouse click you can enable it again by clicking on the mouse icon again (orange background means it is disabled, normal background enabled)! :)

Hi Jane,
there appears to be something faulty on your system then. It could be one of a number of things, bad earthing, interference, firmware, driver. My suggestion would be to call back your supplier as it has only just been fitted.

I also did a search the knowledgebase - this is available 24/7
http://www.prometheankb.com/

I searched for right click and got this :-

Why is the right click menu appearing when I am using my Activpen?

Applicable To
All Activboards
Activpen
Problem Description
You may be using the Activpen and the right click context menu will keep appearing even when trying to write or click on buttons.

Solution
There are several things we can do to isolate the fault and fix it.

Ensure that you may not accidentally be pushing the right click button on the barrel of the Activpen.

Try switching the power for your Activboard off and then back on. The Activboard should beep when switched back on. Please try your Activpen again now.

If the problem still exists, please try another Activpen, if another Activpen works then please contact Technical Support with your Activboard serial number and let us know about it.

If another Activpen is behaving in a similar way then there may be an issue with the Activboard itself. Please try updating the Activdriver from our website and applying the latest upgrade patch to your copy of Activstudio or Activprimary. Then right click the AV Activdriver icon next to the clock in the system tray, choose "about" and make a note of the firmware version. Then please contact Technical Support with this information along with the Activboard serial number. We may be able to provide a CD to fix this.

I think you may have to re-calibrate your pen. Try it!!

Check that the buttion on the pen actually works - you should feel a definite click when pressed.

I have found on a few occassions that the button has been pressed too firmly and has somehow got stuck, so whenever it was used it seemed to be permanently right-clicking.

The deft use of a paper clip or something similar has released the button every time.

Thanks.
I have tried several different pens. They all do the same thing. I am wondering if ther isn't something up with the slates. We have four slates and they all do it.

It is really really dangerous to try and diagnose in the forum because of all sorts of issues which may not be apparent from your written word! I would strongly suggest that you contact Technical Support, as it really does sound like an issue which is not to do with the slate or pen - it is not normal behaviour!!

We have very many whiteboards and this has happened on most of them that I have used, so it is not a hardware problem, unless it is systemic. Neither is it the pen, because dozens of different pens have been used and the probem recurs even when holding the pen inches away from the button. Turning the projector off for a while and then back on seems to help, so possibly it is a heat-related problem. This might explain why the problem starts only after a period of use (20 minutes plus). Unfortunately, I am still looking for a definitive solution.

I look after over 120 schools with promethean IWB's

Assuming the pens are ok (confirmed working on other IWB's) right click on the little promethean driver icon in the right hand corner of the screen, click 'about' & get the firmware version.

The latest is V3.67.

I have found updating the firmware cures this problem alot.

Firmware updates can damage the IWB so be carefull.
Promethean send out firmware update CD's with their wands you could try that.

Good luck.
