View Full Version : Problems with Text Boxes

I have noticed that sometimes when I download a flipchart, the text inside the textboxes are all jammed together. At first I thought it might be because the creator of the flipchart used a font that I didn't have on my computer.

However a fellow teacher has stated that she created a flipchart at home (on a PC) using a font she has on her class computer (which is also a PC) and the same thing is happening to her.

When she creates the flipchart, the text in the textbox looks fine. However when she views the flipchart at school, the text is all jammed together inside the flipchart.:(

Any ideas?

Hi kboan and welcome!
This is a complete guess but maybe it is due to screen resolution:confused:
Are you using widescreen PCs for flipchart preparation and a conventional screen for presentation. I know that some people prepare flps in 600x400 so they avoid resolution issues when in presenttion mode.
Maybe someone else has a better suggestion.

I have this problem too. If I have a text box with several lines of text and I have used the spacing tool (as opposed to returns), the text box will be all scrunched up when I come back later. I can fix it for the moment but the spacing just won't stay spaced.

I must be quick to add here that I use a Mac with AS3 so I don't know whether the problems are the same.

A simple solution could be:

Try the Page scale options. View the flipchart at 100%. This could solve the text issue.

It might be because you create flipcharts at a different screen resolution to the person who created their flipchart.

Thanks for your replies...but I don't believe the problem is screen resolution. The text inside the box is literally squashed in on itself - so much so that the letters themselves seem to overlap one another and even sit on top of one another from time to time. If it were just a problem with the size of the textbox, then perhaps the words would wrap differently inside the box and maybe get cut off...but its as though you are trying to cram 3 inches of words/letters into a 2 inch space. All the letters are visible, but they are just CRAMMED on top of one another. Since I have had another teacher say she has had this happen, I figure it must be a problem...maybe a bug. Hopefully I'll get an answer.

if I could figure out how to create the problem, I'd tell you how. But I just have no idea. Thanks though.

Hi kboan,

Hmm can't think of any more reasons why this could happen...

Did you try the Page Scale options? A lot of text issues are solved by clicking on the Page Scale button and viewing the page at 100%.

It could be a font incompatibilty. If a font used on the creation machine is not available on the receiving machine, font substitution takes place. The substituted font may not fit in the existing text box and thus gets jumbled. Its a bit of a pain, but double click the text box and edit the text (you will probably see that the font box is blank) choose a font and everything should be OK
