Good morning Friends!
I know how to make a magnifying glass. I am wanting to make a magnifier though using some Halloween graphics. I have worked and worked and so far no luck!
I attached the graphics that am wanting to use. Anyone wiling to give it a try and help me figure out if this can be done?
Thank you soooo much!

I did the pumpkin but I think that you would need a graphics program to remove the centre of the others first.

I took word magnifier to mean "magic revealer". If that's right, then I did one of the pumpkins and wrote out the instructions. These are easy to make with the free hand camera of AS3!

Here is the Jack-o-Lantern. Here's what I did:

1. Make the background a bright color - I used bright green. That allows you to see clearly what you have erased.
2. Zoom way in. I used a magnification of 225%. That allowed the graphic to fit on the page, but it gave me more precision with the eraser.
3. Move the graphic to the top layer.
4. Use a wide eraser to erase the middle of the area that you wish to be transparent.
5. Use a narrow eraser to erase around the edges of that area. I used a width of 5, and then I went to 1 to get the corners.
6. Group the graphic and the eraser marks.
7. Move the graphic to the front of the top layer if necessary so that it is on top of the annotations you wish to reveal.

I hope this helps!

Oh my goodness! I left the computer for about an hour and came back to find THREE wonderful responses! THANK YOU soooo much! Each of you seemed to have made the magnif ier (magic revealer)a bit differently each time but it worked! I am going to play with it again and see if I can do it too!
THANK YOU so much for your kindness in helping me![clap]

Yet another version! This one includes instructions showing how a revealer can be used as a magnifier (on the second page) - long winded but it works. :)

WOW!!!!! Sheelagh! This is so awesome as well! Can it be used as a magnifier AND revealer all at the same time? For example, hide the ghost and find him (reveal him) and heis magnified?
Regardless, THANK YOU for sharing the magnifier-it is sooooo GREAT!!!!!!
Thank you so much!

Hi,

My name is Denise. I just recently upgraded to primary 3. I HAVE downloaded activities using the revealer. But, I would like to know how to make it. Could you tell me the steps. I know all about layers and I've played with many features.

Thanks,

Denise

Hi Denise,

I've copied and pasted this response from a previous thread from Simon. ( I did a search on how to create a viewer)

Hi all,
Someone asked me to write instructions on how to create a “magic viewer” and I thought it might be useful to post them here. There are lots of threads about magic viewers on the forum, but I thought people might find this basic set of instructions useful.

To create the viewer
On a blank page:
Draw a circle with a thick line, using the Circle tool (found via a right-click on the Pen tool).
Fill the circle with the Fill tool. (this “filling” is just to guide the Eraser tool)
With the Eraser tool, erase the filling. (it’s quite fiddly but worth doing well)
Create another circle and put it over the previous circle, just to make it neat-looking. Draw a line to create the viewer’s handle.
Select everything. Click on the “Group icon” to group everything together. The viewer is complete!

To use the viewer:
From the Resource Library, take out a Spanish flag (used in my example) and an octagon (used in my example)
Leave the Spanish flag on the middle layer.
Right-click on the octagon. Select Edit>Layer>Top. Right-click on the octagon again, and select Edit>To Back. Put the octagon over the flag.
Move the viewer over the octagon and the flag will be revealed as if by magic!Resulting viewer attached.
Of course there are lots of variants of this, but hope that makes sense...!

Search the forum by putting in 'magnifier' as your keyword. There are quite alot of threads here that will give you support in creating viewers.

I particularily like Dave Harringtons video tips that you will find at the bottom of the thread entitled Margaret's Flipchart... Revealer/ Magnifying Glass

They are very easy to follow!

You will also find that alot of people have already made magnifiers or viewers that you can drag into your own resource library and use again and again! After all..... the wheel has already been invented!

If you look at the Halloween flipcharts that were uploaded into the Resource area, there is a flipchart containing a spyglass skull! There are lots of flipcharts around on Planet with examples to put in your library.

This is great thanks. I had just managed to create one, but not quite sure how! Now I know!
