Can a container set to contain anything "hold" annotations (as opposed to other kinds of objects) even when the container is moved? I'm a MAC user with AS3. Can't get this to work. I'm enjoying all the new features of AS3 so much that I'm getting greedy. Can anyone help out there?

Hi Cappy,
Do you want to set the container to contain literally "anything"? In that case anything that gets pulled in to it, will stay.
On the other hand, I created a container to contain a specific object. Then I created an annotation that was one keystroke with the pencil and one that had multiple keystrokes but grouped. The one keystroke annotation worked while the grouped annotation did not work. I could take a picture of the multiple keystroke annotation and set that to be contained as one object - that will work.
But I still think that a container set to contain anything - will!

The annotation must be smaller than the container. There have been multiple posts on containers - use the forum Search facility and you will find lots of tips.

Believe me I have scoured the forum and even posted msgs in both the Mac forum and in the thread on stickies in the PC forum and the tips are wonderful for lots of issues but I just haven't been able to get my annotations to stick. Just now, though, as I was preparing an example flp to show what I was experiencing, my stickie finally worked. (Leading me to doubt my sanity.) Please understand that I didn't change any container settings. My stickie just started "holding" my squiggle annotation. To double-check, I erased the annotation and wrote a new squiqqle with the pen directly on my stickie, and ....at the moment on my macbook....I once again can't get the annotation to stick. I am attaching the flp that explains my problem...if anyone out there can duplicate it. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!! I'm a macbook user with AS3.

The quote below is from Rex Boggs in a great thread in the PC Forum about the difference between Smart and Activ (as if there were any doubt):
I use stickies. As I wrote to the chap who asked,
"One thing that I do as a maths teacher using an Activboard is include "stickies" on every page in which I think I will need additional space. A stickie is a rectangle (any size, any colour) with a small tab attached to it. The stickie lives off the page, with only the tab showing on the edge of the board. If I need more writing space, I use the tab to drag the stickie onto the page and start writing on it. It is called a stickie because anything that is added to it automatically sticks to it. So I can write some text on the stickie and then move it around (or hide it off the page again), and the text sticks to it."
The quote seems to indicate that I should be able to write directly onto a large rectangle set to contain anything. My problem is that I can't start writing directly on the stickie and have the writing stick. Just now, I discovered that I could get my annotation to stick but only if I MOVED the annotation onto the rectangle. I replicated the same problem when I added a rectangle added from my tool bar (as opposed to moving the rectangle). Can anyone replicate the problem or show me the error of my ways?

I'm seeing the same thing. If I write on the stickie and move it, the annotation doesn't stay inside. If I drag the annotation onto the container, it will stay.
One workaround might be to group the container and the annotations after you're finished writing on it. At least then, you should be able to move it, and the annotations should stay with it.
I hope this helps.

I really appreciate your checking! It so nice to know that other people can experience the issue too! Maybe one of the Promethean admin could chime in too?
I have made this page, and the speech bubbles are containers so that I could make the ideas bigger or smaller - the same as a stickie I guess - try them I am a PC user but they work for me. you do have to be careful that you don't write over the lines so that it is all 'contained' inside the shape

In my experience the annotation has to be moved on to the sticky for the container property to recognise is has something to contain.

My 2 cents - when I set them to contain anything, I can then write directly onto the container/ sticky note, and it all stays together. Just had a quick try and it works with h/w recognition or annotating with the pen.

Thanks very much for checking! Seems to be a Mac issue. You have to move the annotation for it to "stick." Hoping that will be an improvement in the next release for Mac. Stickies seem like a nice feature if the writing sticks directly on the stickie.
