Awhile back, someone on the forum had suggested an idea of a new background resource pack for "seasons" to supplement the ones in the resource library.
So we created one for you! This pack is specifically for fall/autumn. and it include lots of leaves, beautiful scenes and fun ones you can use as background for this fall's flipcharts!
In case you haven't seen it yet, you can download it from:
US Planet
http://www.Prometheanplanet.com/us/server/show/ConResource.11338
UK Planet
http://www.Prometheanplanet.com/uk/server/show/ConResource.11330
Also, don't forget the School Year Calendar packs that you can use as well:

Do you find these helpful? Do you want one for Winter? :D

Other that snow and the like, anyone have any suggestions for the winter collection! Speak now while I'm making it!
Don't hesitate to ask for something not too obvious. I'll think of the obvious things!

Lisa,
You should just come with me on my next trip to Minnesota. It will be October, and you could probably get a ton of winter pictures there! :-)
I would say you have to get some snow. Maybe some ice hockey.

Caryn,
Should I have a robin for winter or should that be more for a Spring pack?
Here are some areas I have been thinking about (trying to think Dec, Jan, Feb)
Snow/snowflakes
Fireplace
Candy Canes
Pine Cones
Holly
Icicles
Christmas
Hanukkah
MLK Birthday
New Year
Black History Month
Valentine's Day
Groundhog Day

Robin is for winter. All the rest of the birds return in Spring but the robin is the one we feed in the winter when the snow is on the ground!
Just another thought, what about winter sports?
skiing
bob sleigh
snow boarding etc

Thanks, Karen, I did not know that! I will look for a Robin in the snow!
About sports, I was thinking of doing a resource pack for all sports in the near future. I have lots of neat stuff I've found for this!
Thanks so much for your input.
(I've already got over 30 new backgrounds done and will continue to add them as more suggestions roll in!)

Newbie Question..
I downloaded the resource and saved it. When i tried to open it up, however, in my backgrounds section I have an icon for the whole download and not the fall photos. I then tried to just open the download with the same kind of results. I know I've downloaded the file...I guess what I'm saying is help!!
Thanks!

The download should go to you desktop (typically) and is one file with an name like Fallbackgrounds.as3a.
In Activstudio, you should launch launch the ActivResource Manager (under the menu ActivExtras) and choose the icon that that say "import from Resource Pack."
(I think that if you double-click on the file, it will automatically open the ActivResource Manager.)
Then navigate to the file "fallbackgrounds.as3a" and choose it.
It will let you decide if you want it to install them in the Shared Resource Library or the My Resources.
If you install in the Shared Resource Library, it will put all of the background in the background section. (Each resource pack will install in a specific place noted in the description of that resource pack on Promethean Planet.)
It should install 22 different backgrounds.

When I taught Social Studies, I always tried to do a unit on Festivals of Lights, honoring the different cultures that celebrate in Fall/Winter. I think I can remember some of them:
Kwanza (African American)
Eid (Islam)
Christmas (Christianity)
Hanukkah (Judaism)
Diwali (Hindu)

Thanks, Kathy,
I have backgrounds created for Hanukkah and Christmas but not Kwaanza, Eid or Diwali. I'll see what I can come up with.
BTW, I have created flipcharts about Kwanzaa and Hanukkah.
The Kwanzaa one is located here:
http://www.Prometheanplanet.com/us/server/show/ConResource.8903
Kwanzaa
This flipchart contains a simple lesson covering some basic information about Kwanzaa. Interactivities include using the paint bucket to highlight key vocabulary words, coloring the candles of the kinara, and lighting each of the 7 candles that represent the seven principles of Kwanzaa. A short Activote quiz follows. Standards: Social Studies Identifies the purpose and customs associated with various special days of celebration. Recognizes that different cultural groups have different characteristics. Uses a calendar. Acquires information through observing and listening.
And the Hanukkah one is located here:
http://www.Prometheanplanet.com/us/server/show/ConResource.8635
Hanukkah
This flipchart was written to let children understand some of the basic information about Hanukkah. Vocabulary, reading comprehension and a crossword puzzle game are included as well as a printable page for making a dreidel.
Hope this helps!

Dear Lisa,
Thank you so much for your great directions. I love the fall layouts. I made a copy of your instructions and shared it at our district activeboard share day this afternoon. Nobody else had tried to dowload because it looked intiimidating. It might be a good idea to share the dowload instructions with the packs. I'm really looking forward to your new winter set.

Thanks, guys,
Yes, there is a Winter Collection coming...AND I think I went a little crazy on them.
Not only will it have winter scenes, but also ALL the holidays I could think of all the way through February- even Groundhog Day!
There will be around 45 new backgrounds! Expect them up in about a week or so!
As far as the images being separate, you would have to use the camera tool to get them out as separate images. Some of the images I used were directly from the Activstudio resource library and are ALREADY separate images.
I keyworded them all so once you get them in your library, you can search for them by keyword, so if you search for "pumpkin" you will find existing pumpkin images PLUS the three backgrounds with a pumpkin in it.

Yes, for the UK resource I get page not found too. However, I went to the resource area and this is the link:

Ok this sounds similar to my problem. I am able to save the resource pack and I can see it in the resource manager. I reindexed and all that. I can see that the new "tree" forms and lists everything out. I can open the pages there and see the tiny thumb nails. But I cannot open them in Activprimary or move them into Activprimary. I can access 2 that I loaded in Activprimapry, but the other 4 I cannot.
What am I doing wrong?

Hi Marlena
Not sure what you are trying to do here. You cannot open the backgrounds from the resource manager. You need to go to Activprimary or Activstudio. Open the Backgrounds resource library, go to the Seasons folder, then drag the relevant thumbnail on to the page.

I love all the seasonal backgrounds but when I put one on a page it displays the picture like tiles. I can't seem to get them to be just one picture. Any ideas.????

Hi Nancy
Welcome to the forum.
When you drag your background up go to design mode (prom. man/prom. man) Double click on the background and choose the "properties" from the menu that appears. Under apperance choose stretch or best fit.
You can then drag this stretched background back into the library at the bottom and rename it. If you give it the same name as the original it will save over it and always come up as a full picture.
Hope this helps.

Help! I am trying to place a downloaded background on my flipchart page but it keeps coming in as 4 attached backgrounds on my page. What have done wrong in my settings that is making it do this? I have tried creating different sized flipcharts - no luck. Anyone else ever have this happen?
Thanks in advance for your response.

Just right click on the page and change the page properties of the background from "tiled" to "best fit." That should do it, I think.

Lisa - A common request I get for a resources is the new quarters (with the different states) and the new nickels. Maybe we could do a resource pack?
THANKS!! +wave+
LisaD
09-12-2007, 02:56 PM
OK, I found a "source" for the new quarters (and nickels) and would be thrilled to make a new resource pack with them.
Check out the following link with lots of great lesson ideas and games.
http://www.usmint.gov/kids
You will note that there are some quarters that are not out yet (the 2008 quarters and the last group to be released).
Oklahoma
New Mexico
Arizona
Alaska
Hawaii
I think they could be released soon (at least the images for them) I've read that they SHOULD be available in January 2008.
Do you think I should wait to do the resource pack when they are all ready?

Lisa, I think a resource pack with the new coins would be awesome!
LisaD
10-12-2007, 01:27 PM
Ok, I'll get to work on them. Perhaps if I wait until January to post, the last five quarters will be ready!
In the meantime, if anyone has other ideas or needs concerning a new US money resource pack, speak up!!
The best ideas come from YOU!
