With the current push for hands-on math and the abundant use of math manipulatives, I'd like to see more math manipulative images in Activstudio such as pattern blocks, fraction bars, integer disks (those disks that are red on one side and yellow on the other), fraction circles (w/ the fractional value given) that could fit over a whole circle, etc.

Thanks, and looking forward to more future resources!!!

There is a HUGE collection of free flash objects and java applets on the web that have such objects and some very clever ways of manipulating them.

I am in the process of creating a website to simplify the search for these. It is located at
http://www.interactivemaths.net/

Visit the site and leave contact details, and I will inform you once the site actually has some content :)

Cheers

Thanks so much for the resource! Can't wait til the site is up!! [clap] I went to a Smartboard training and I was so jealous of all the tools, images, and flash features that were available.

As well as the myriad of maths manipulatives online.. Do a search with maths keywords in the Resource Library... Many, many resources, fraction blocks, clocks, counters, tables, number lines, etc. etc. will appear in abundance.

Note: The fully working Protractors, Rulers and compasses are unique to Promethean and there are other interactive math tools in the software built directly into the software such as the Clock, Dice tool and a fraction creator.

The forum is worth a search for ideas on using these powerful tools.

The Activsoftware also has powerful point and click programming built in - allowing you to create a range of interactions such as intelligent drag and drop, following paths (e.g. a point traveling on a Sine curve, etc,) Many advanced users and even students are making their own virtual manipulatives with them.

Also search Promethean Planet Resources for Maths flipcharts and fully prepared lessons.. there are hundreds of activities there too and you can search by topic or keyword. e.g. fractions, time, decimals, money, etc.

Such as: http://www.prometheanplanet.com/uk/server/show/ConResource.11244

The flipchart builder template pack contains many more editable flipchart pages for Maths and other subjects.

Is it possible that Activstudio can support Java applets as it does flash activities?

I think in general this will be difficult because most Java applets are embedded in the website that hosts them. Even if you had permission to copy the page to your own computer, there are hidden files that are needed that run the applet that wouldn't be copied.

So I think that Java applets will only be accessible via the web browser.

But if the web browser could be window embedded into a flipchart page, well then....

Thanks for the links! This site: http://nlvm.usu.edu/en/nav/frames_asid_169_g_1_t_2.html?open=activities&from=category_g_1_t_2.html

looks like it will help until Promethean gets Pattern Blocks

I, too, would love to have Pattern Blocks!

Open the attached flipchart and drag the pattern blocks into your resources.

I have posted this information to another thread but in case you missed it, my website at http://interactivemaths.net has been launched and now has over 150 resources/links available - from early primary to senior secondary.

If you know of any digital resources that should be there, please let me know too!

This is GREAT! And what a good use for the "Drag a Copy" feature! I especially appriciate that no rotation has to be done with these, since you have all of the shapes already properly rotated for us! I will be trying these with my kids when we hit the geometry portion of our "Test Review" ailments...

Thanks again for sharing!
