Object Locking

I have heard from several teachers I have worked with that having an icon to lock/unlock an object similar to the group/ungroup feature would make this process so much easier.

I'd definitely vote for that one - just a picture of a locked lock and an unlocked lock that toggle the attribute. That'd be terrific!!

There is obviously a demand for this feature - see an earlier thread on this forum. I use Group/Ungroup frequently, and Lock/Unlock would be very useful too.
