View Full Version : Embed htm and html files
It would be nice to be able to embed htm and html files in a flipchart.

I guess you must mean as a placeholder that has browser controls like the video and flash placeholders, because you can obviously embed the link and store the htm file in the flipchart already. I'm not convinced this would be an improvement, or am I not getting it
Hi Peter,
Unless I am mistaken, it is not possible to actually embed(store file in flipchart) the actual "htm file" in ActivStudio.
The link is embedded but not the actual file.
However "image', "text" and "swf" files are actually embedded)file is stored) in the flipchart file.
I tried to embed(store file in a flipchart) an image, flash and htm file.
I saved the flipchart.
Then when I decompiled the flipchart by naming it a zip file and unzipping the flipchart, I could see the image and flash file.
BUT NO htm file.
One advantage this feature would give is for people to be able to view htm/html content in the flipchart locally without having to have a local copy of the htm files in the correct directory or be connected to the internet.
Hope this makes sense.

Htm files can be embedded in Activstudio however if they refer to other files the whole thing needs to be saved as a single file web archives so that all the files are pulled together.
In web browser - File, Save As, Web Archive Single file *.mht and then embedded the object into your flipchart. It should work offline.

Many important sites these days are also generated using databases - and cannot function if taken 'offline'

I would like to be able to embed Voicethreads, or Vokis, or similar web-apps, the way I would in a wiki or blog...

Like any other web objects.... the weblink ability enables that.
What specific advantage are you looking for in embeddable HTML that a link does not offer? If you link to live page on the web - e.g. a blog or wiki - then you get all the latest comments and stats too.
The Promethean Web browser has also been optimised for whiteboard use and will float over a flipchart and not go to the back when the flipchart is clicked.
You can also embed an MP3 file directly

I don't want to access the blog/wiki, just for students to see the specific product or to interact with that piece. For instance, I want the Voki to introduce the activity. It only belongs on the first page of the flip chart, it doesn't need to float over or stay open. In terms of a Voicethread, I want my students to be able to comment on the thread, not to pull up Voicethread's website to create one of their own. What if I wanted an animoto to play when the slide is open? I want the students to see what I created, not create their own.

I'm just learning to use this software, I'm just trying to figure out how it is more useful for the teachers in my school than using their own wikis, where they have a bit more freedom to use webtools.

You can use the software in Desktop Mode - which means you can interact with and draw on Wiki based content.
Can you post the links to the examples you are using.

I just found this thread while searching for a way to embed a Voki in my flipchart.
It would be great to be able to insert html code into a flipchart. ;)
Does anyone know a work-around?
