A number of teachers would like a "pop-window" for definitions and answers. I know we can have an embedded file open but that's not quite right for what they need -- the pop-up window should be small and possibly be able to position on a part of the page. Word doc wouldn't work. Quicktime would be cumbersome to create.

Being able to create pop-up windows that can hold text would be great.

Maybe there could be pop-ups designed in a way similar to ticker tape, where several can be stored for entire flipchart or between flipchart but is pop-up window instead.

Would be good to have preference for where on the page it will pop-up and how big it will be.

Have you tried the Notes and Pointers? The text in a Note can be hidden when it is converted to a Pointer, then revealed by turning the Pointer back into a Note...
You could also use Actions to have an answer 'reveal' itself when you click on an object.

Yes, could you not create a text box, make it invisible and create a button with the action "show" that text box? I know you can do this with images.

Yes, that technique would work for pop ups. I tend to take an area snapshot of my text boxes to make them images because a) the font I used may not be available on all other computers, and b) some macs and widescreen laptops stretch the screen and the textbox, so sometimes the text doesn't display correctly.

Thanks for the suggestions. Yes, it looks like the new features in 3.0 will allow for pop-up windows!

I am trying to figure out how to create a popup on a flipchart page. I have seen it done on a flipchart that I downloaded, but can't recreate something similar on my own. Are there step by step directions somewhere that I just haven't found?

Hi
If you could be more specific. Perhaps you could attach the flipchart to which you refer....+wave+

I have tried several times to load the flipchart then the individual page from the flipchart and I am getting an error message. I am sure I am doing something wrong, any suggestions?

This is my error message:
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 2669432 bytes) in /var/home/promethean/prometheanworld.com/www/common/html/vb_forum/includes/class_core.php on line 1814

Since you've tried sending just the page and are still getting that error message, is it possible to take a picture of the page and send it along?

I have posted the example on my website:

http://www.rock-hill.k12.sc.us/teachers/lses/ebaker/pictures/popup.htm

When you click on the gourd then the map to the right of the page shows up. This flipchart can be found on the planet titled "drinkinggourd"

Hmmm, that's MY flipchart! Just for background info, I started it on v2.5 Mac and then moved it to my PC to add those new 3.0 actions.

Not sure it that makes any difference or not.

Lisa, this flipchart was excellent. I know that my students will love it and it has some of the activities that we were already doing. Thanks for sharing. I have figured out what I was doing wrong. For the object that I want to pop up I have to go to properties>appearance>deselect visible. Add another object to the page that you want to click on to activate your pop up. Make it an action object by choosing show and the object you want to pop up.

Great to hear!

Yes, also, you if you want to keep it (the picture of the big dipper) hidden for the next use , don't forget to click reset page before saving. Otherwise, if you make changes to the flipchart and the image is visible, it will save it showing and you will have to manually make it invisible again.

I don't remember if there is a toggle hide/show. That might be a nice change to this flipchart just in case it's saved with the image showing.

Anyone know?

No Hide/Show doesn't toggle. I have worked around this by having a picture covered by a rectangle the same color as the flipchart background. Both the picture and the rectangle have a "to back" action on them. It looks like a show/hide toggle then ;)

I did something like this on the attached flipchart I used to play around with the new actions (when I posted the thread re pop-windows note it was based on : 2.5 but now I'm working 3.0).
The bear and the wolf have a front to back toggle that would work for the hide/show same color rectangle you described.

It may sound long, but --- put an object on the page. Start a text box with nothing but 2 spaces. Might be a good idea to go to properties and identify the text box.
Now go back to your original object, double click to get to properties. Select Actions. Click on Append Text. Type the text you would like to pop up. Click set -- select your blank text box.
Now when you click on the object, the text that you typed will appear in your blank text box.
Hope this helps!
