Hi Can someone please help.

We use a laptop linked to the Promethean board, we want to play sounds through the Promethean amplifier system so we have attached the appropriate lead to the laptop, but no sound comes out. There is sound coming from the laptop but not when I attached the lead to the amplifier. I have taken out all the leads and reconnected them, but still no sound!. Help please. ????

Hi Elaine

I think this is a case of checking it wire by wire! And I apologise if I sound patronising. The first thing is to check which socket of the laptop the speaker cable was plugged into. The other day I plugged one into my microphone socket rather than the headphone socket:o If that's not it, check the volume control on the amplifier and whether the amplifier is switched on. If neither of those resolve it, then look at the back of the amplifier to find which input point the cable from the laptop is connected to. Then check the knob on the front to see if it's set to the same input. finally I think there may be another button on the amplifier which can be in or out. Check that too. If none of this helps, either contact your techie people or our Technical Support.

Hi
Thanks for the reply, Yes I have tried that, I have taken out each wire, reconnected them, made sure the amplifier wire was in the headphone socket;) but still silence. I think it is time I called the cavalry. Thanks for the help.

Hi,

I've come across a few different issues with sound being output to the amplifier.

Have you checked the volume control? It could be that one of the sliders is set to 0, which could stop output to the headphones.

A common problem I've discovered at school is that the output lead is connected to the microphone jack and not the headphone one.

Finally, if you turn on the amplifier, you should hear a relay click. If there's no click, try removing the power cable and re-inserting it.

Hope that's of use, although as it's summer hols, you might not care at the moment! Let's hope that sunshine is on its way.

Phil

Hi
I can't let things get on top of me or beat me, so I tried again, rewired it all, turned it on and off, tried different outputs, nothing. So I gave up. Then I thought try another amplifier. Still nothing, so I thought oh well get the cavalry in. So before i phoned I tried once more (still thinking its not going to beat me), unplugged everything, rewired, replugged, and wow and behold, it worked, and has been every since. I still do not know what went wrong in the first place, but what ever it was it is now. [clap][clap][clap]
