Found this site recently...
http://www.garageband.com/
All sorts of modern music which you can download for free.. Most is Creative Commons licensed - so you can use it in flipcharts and share it.. (make sure you name the band, etc, and check any special terms)...
But if you just need some modern grungy guitar 'thanng' to perk the kids interest for your flipchart without risking the wrath of Sony or HMV - then this could be the place!

And Mac folks shouldn't forget about just creating a simple riff or tune in Garageband themselves - drag and drop - very simple learning curve and then export to iTunes.
It can add some nice spice to your flps!

And Garageband for MAC has a great on-screen piano keyboard that is just fantastic on the Activboard and it will turn you music into notation too...
One of my all time fave bits of software...

We could get our lucky MAC customers to help develop a set of soundtracks and themes in MAC Garageband ....
We could then put it online as a resource pack.... What you make is free to share!

Mark,
I love that idea!! I'd be willing to help make them. Anyone have an idea for a first theme?

I like the idea of a sound resource pack.
I think the first theme should be something about back to school.
Or something that Char can play on her new iPhone! :-)

One of my regrets (yes I really fret about stuff like this) was losing track of a library of midifiles on themes like scary, happy, excited, falling, clouds, thunderstorm - each about 20-30 seconds long - so they could set an atmosphere.
I used them loads of times in web pages and creative writing with kids in class.

Please do a resource pack for sound files! I have been incorporating more sounds into my flipcharts and I'd like more of a variety to choose from. One way I use the sounds is during ACTIVote sessions- one sound for the right answer and one for the incorrect. But it would be nice to have "thinking" music running as they are making their selections. Of course that's just one way to use the sounds, there's many others. I'd love to see (or hear) a Halloween resource pack once that time gets closer.
Go for it Char! [clap] You know you have "testers" out here for anything you want to try out. ;-)

Thanks for the ideas. I'll see what I can put together that's original or royalty-free!!

Thanks Char.
Just remember what President Bush said, you can make a difference in a Starfish's life!
