Here are two questions that an educator is wanting answered... I can't help them, so if anyone has feedback, please respond! :D

I plan on recording my lessons. Are you able to edit what is said during a particular presentation? I sure would hate it if a student said something inappropriate in class and I couldn’t take it out.
Also, my district is going to order camtasia studio for those using interwrite pads so that they may edit their lessons. Will promethean be compatible with this software?

Hi Tai Ann,

On the PC side, I think the AVI needs to be converted to a file format that Camtasia can take, then it can be edited with Camtasia or any typical video editing software.

I primarily use my Mac to record flipcharts. On the Mac, it creates a .mov file that I then import into iMovie. In iMovie, I can edit out sections if I want plus I can remove the audio track from any segment and re-record a new audio track. I can also add titles, stills and other stuff like that.

Most of the videos on Curriculum Corner were done that way.

I would assume on a PC you can do the same, although I think you may have to convert the AVI first unless the video editing software you have can take that particulart type of AVI file directly. There was a thread awhile back that talked about this. I think Activstudio creates some strange version of AVI, not sure.

Hope this helps!

I would need to know if the Interwrite pads were being used with Promethean software. If they are then the Promethean software has the screen recorder function already built in.

Also - Before you buy Camtasia....

The screen recorder software in Activsoftware IS camtasia. Although with less user features and no FLASH output.

You can use the AS screen recorder to record a lesson as Video (pausing interrupts the recording so you can let fly at kid and not have it recorded :) ) for on the fly editing...

Then any video editing program can be used to edit small bits out (that you did not pause for) or add titles, etc. and make it into a podcast, DVD, eMail file.

Windows Movie Maker (Free with new versions of Windows) or iMovie (as Lisa says) both deal with AS movie files without needing to buy anything new.

Promethean uses a Techsmith codec which you can download for free - that should address most video issues.

Search the forum or the web for "techsmith codec"

I really appreciate the feedback. Hey, I know how to teach for the ITBS, NCATE, CRT's, IDMS, etc. ... but I really don't get all the technology names and conversion things. I am going to pass on the tips that you both provided. [clap]

My knowledge so far is that they are considering purchasing Activ Boards but are currently using their Interwrite pads WITHOUT ActivStudio software or the board. I personally have never used an Interwrite pad, but I think it is very similar to our Slate, isn't it?

Thank you,

Tai
