Many of my flipcharts look a bit like a dog's breakfast, colourwise. A bit of pink, then maybe some red. Oh, haven't used lime green for a while, maybe a bit of orange over here ... Or they are boring - blue, then blue, followed by some blue....

It would be nice to be able to go to Design mode and be given a choice of pre-designed colour palettes - one that gives a warm tone to the flipchart, another that is exciting, another with cool colours, maybe one that is somber. And of course holiday themed palettes - e.g. purples and yellows for Easter

It would be a real boon for the artistically-challenged of us out there!

You can alter the colours in the pallete to create this facility. You can also alter the number of visible colours.

Then if you save that pallete change as a new profile (use the profiles feature on the dashboard) - e.g. "My profile - Aqua Tints"

The 24 colour pallete has sets of Blue, Green, Red and Greyscale in addition to the primary & secondary colours.

Thanks, Mark.

As per your advice, I customised my palette and saved it as a profile. It works ok though if I choose a different palette, I have to shut down ActivStudio and re-start it for the new palette to be available. So its not quite as quick and easy as I would have preferred.

I followed your advice to go to
Menu > Customise > Colours
to get sets of Blue, Green, Red and Greyscale colours.
I don't see these other colour sets. The only setting I seem to be able to change is the number of colours. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

To clarify - the default 24 colours have some graduations of tones pre-done. You can customise them - but currently a new set requires a restart.

You can also use the colour picker tool to "capture" colours from images, etc.

If you are looking for consistency then the new page templates are worth a look.

HI All,

I have issues with colour too. I have quite a dim projector, so my colours don't always appear on my board as they do on someone elses. Add to this the fact that i am colour blind (making it difficult to define my own colours), and you get some "lovely" colour combinations.
I think pallettes of complimentary colours would be better. I could choose a colour in confidence, knowing it wouldn't clash.

if the projector is dim - contrast will also be important - so light and dark shades...

As an aside - I also found this site,,,, Take an image from the web and it will generate a pallete of colours to go with it....

http://www.degraeve.com/color-palette/

I would use that in a lesson if I was back teaching....

That's a nice site, mark. I'm feeling a bit dim today...how do I get those colours into my palette in ACTIVstudio?

Cheers

There is a tool in Activstudio called the color picker. You'll need to add it to your tool palette, then you click on a color in your palette, then use the color picker to click on the image (where the new color is), it will replace the original color with the new one.

I'm colour blind too, so find it hard to come up with colour schemes.

To get round it, I usually find a website whose design I like, take a snapshot of it, then use the Colour Picker to pick the colours it uses.... You could try the website on the board first to see if its colours work with your projector.

It's a no-brain way of getting colours that work...
