I love things in powerpoint like being able to make objects "appear" or make an object move from one place to another wth a mouse click How can I accomplish this?

have you tried using the "action" function?

you could use the "hide" and 'appear"action functions to achieve this.

Do a search for "periodic table" on the forum.
There should be a flipchart that will demonstrate that.
It shows the effect of making spheres appear to move along the page as you sequentially tap on buttons.

If you want more elaborate actions then you will need to learn some flash and then embed that in your flipchart.

If I want info to appear in bulleted form, I first create the page that would have all the bullets listed. Next, I use the snap to grid option to make sure all the bullets are spaced as necessary. Then I duplicate the page as many times as I have bullets. After that, I begin with the first page and delete all bullets except for the first one. Then I go to the second page and delete all bullets except for the first two. I continue this until I reach the last page. Finally I set the page transitions to cross fade--this is an important step. As I click on the Next Page arrow, the bullets appear.

I've attached a quick example to show how this works.

If I want a butterfly to fly across the page, I use the almost the same steps, including using the cross fade transition.

I've also attached an example of a butterfly flying across the page. The last page of the flipchart shows how I began the "flight."

Hope these ideas help.

Wow! Thanks! I really enjoyed your bullets and butterfly. The butterfly was my favorite. I am ready to use it on a new flipchart!

:D Thanks for sharing!

Another idea to make it more animated:
Use the flipchart recorder to "copy" the scene of the butterfly :p
Then u can use it in other flipcharts as a "movie".

Another possibility for bullet points for users comfortable with using actions is the Show action available in version 3. For all but the first bullet point or heading go into properties- Appearance and uncheck visible. Then for each bullet go into properties- Actions and select show, then set it to the next text object in the list. I don't think I can do the animation like this, though- I never would have thought to use pages as animation frames!

It's one of my favourite things to do. Never fails to impress! ;)

I like the action that makes the next one appear but this method of revealing notes is why I think PowerPoint is flawed. You have to reveal it in the order set, no room for flexibility. Doing it this way makes your lessons very rigid and linear.

I prefer the action setting mentioned above where the boxes dissaper when you press them, revealling the notes in whatever order you want. This makes the lesson much more dynamic since you dont have to follow a pre defined order.

For a low tech version of this idea just create boxes over the text that are the same colour as your background and drag them out of the way when you want to reveal each note. I always leave the bullet point there so I know how many points there are and where they are located.

you could also do the famous rub and reveal where you can use the eraser over the boxes, only problem with this is that you then end up with a load of invisible ink objects on your page which can get in the way.

A quick way around that, drag the eraser mark (Using the pickup box) to the trash. Or, alternatively, if you prefer the hidden text and the reveal action, what about making your bullets seperate objects (Small circles) which would not be hidden and could then carry the show action for the text?
