I have found an easy way to keep track of whether students have turned in their assignments or not. I made several pre-made flip charts. Each flip chart has all of my students images on them. For each assignment in the day I pull up a new flipchart and type a heading on it to match the assignment. Example - Colonial America - Comparing colonial times with today paper. When the students complete the assignment they go to the ACTIVboard and click on their picture. The word done appears across the front of their picture when clicked. I save the flipcharts as needed. At the end of the day I print a copy of each and can see exactly who still needs to complete or turn in what assignments. This has made my students more responsible for their work and helps them to take ownership of it.
This also comes in handy for answering questions (if you want each child to participate), or a restroom break (if they ever go one at a time.) I'm sure it could be used for other things as well. I will try to explain how I did this:
1. First I took pictures of all of my students (just their heads) cropped them, and resized them to a considerable size.
2. Then I added all of my students images to my images (personal library) in a new folder I called "kids"
3. Then I opened a new flipchart and added a background (any will do)
4. Then I placed my students images on the background spaced out.
5. Then I created a text box with the word "done" and turned it using the rotation on the text box (so that the word done was going diagonally across the students picture.)
6. Then I copied the "done" text box several times to make exact copies.
7. Next, I clicked on the students image, went to the checkmark(properties button), clicked actions, and then scrolled down to move to bottom layer.
8. Then I put the word done under the picture diagonally by making sure that the "done" text box was on the bottom layer and then went to properties, actions, move to middle layer.
9. Then I gave my flipchart a name and saved it.
10. Then I added a different background without doing anything else, named it something new, and saved it again. I did this several times until I got several different flipcharts I could use for different things.
Hope it doesn't sound to confusing. I just got my board last week and have been playing around. It didn't take me that long to do.
