I just got my board today. It is hooked up to my regular teacher computer that I use for everything, not a laptop. Is there any way that I can be doing something like entering grades in the computer or reading an e-mail, while my kids are doing something completely different, like watching a United Streaming video? It is driving me crazy when I am doing a lesson with them and it pops up that I received an e-mail also.
Thanks,
Jennifer

I think the complicated answer is "no" :D . You can freeze the screen on the board and continue to use the computer - depending on your projector - but if the "action" on the board is not stationery then that wouldn't work....sorry   :(

You can do this Jennifer, but you need to be able to set your computer and monitor up in an extended desktop way, i.e. your projector is an extra half of your desktop. That way you can drag your video onto the second half of your desktop which your projector is displaying whilst you beaver away at your computer on your monitor. There are some other threads about this currently on the forum.

But I think even if you have it set up for a second monitor, only "one person" can be working at one time.
The teacher cannot be using her keyboard checking e-mail while that same computer is working with kids using Activsutdio.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that only one application can be used at a time even if more than one are OPEN at a time.
(And there is only one 'cursor."

So, if I set up the extended desktop (and I am not sure how to do that, even after reading the other threads) my kids could watch United Streaming videos while I worked on my computer because the Windows Media Player would be stationary?????????????????
And also, how could I freeze the screen if I wanted my kids to be copying something or looking at one thing while I worked on something else.
Thanks,
Jennifer

Lisa is right I should have mentioned you cant have two mice but if its a video or an activity where you arent getting the students to use the pen then it will work. You can use the mouse while the other program is viewed by your class.
Setting it up in extended desktop mode will be different for different computers and graphics cards from what I understand. I know how to do it on mine, I right click on the desktop and choose graphics properties then go to extended desktop. I'll let someone who has done this on a variety of platforms help you out here.
Freezing the screen is doen through your projector, you might have a freeze button on your remote, not on all projectors though.

In addition to using the dual monitor approach for digital/web content described above - Your projector will have other inputs that should be wired to a socket panel on the wall - you can usually plug in an additional PC input, a Video/DVD input and often a SVideo (for a VHS) and switch inputs using the projector remote
That way they can be watching a DVD or Video while
you work - or you could plug in most digital cameras and videos that have a video ouput (usually a yellow phone socket)
My current projector setup has a laptop, DVD, VHS and (the best thing) a Nintendo plugged in.... great with a dance mat or music game to burn off some kids calories on a wet day!

I looked at my board today and I do see something that looks like a surge protector that has a plug labeled dvd, vcr, etc. However I am not sure where I would plug the yellow/white/red wires. If they go straight into the projector which is mounted on the ceiling I don't think they will reach. I did find something in my control panel about extended desktop. But my projector is not showing up as an option for the second monitor. It ishowing the monitor that is attached to my computer as monitor 1 and monitor 2. I am not sure how I would install the projector on my computer so that it is showing in my control panel.

Yellow is the Video signal - Red and White are Stereo Audio L & R
Your DVDs and VCRs are likely to have similar coloured sockets. If not then a SCART to Phono adapter will do it.
You need to connect the Yellow output from the video to the yellow DVD/VCR yellow socket on the wall panel and the red to red, white to white using male to male phono leads.
Then choose "video" on the Projector remote to display the signal. The help files and documentation for you Video Projector will explain in more detail.
Most Hi-Fi video shops have an "A/V connection package" that will contain all you need.
Some other video technologies use Phone - My digital still and video cameras both come with a phono video adpater and can plug straight into the projector wall box - for instant projection.

The plugs on my panel are not red, white, and yellow. They are for the electrical plugs. I do not see anywhere on my board or behind my board to plug the colored wires.

You'll need to buy a video and audio extension. You can plug these into your projector which is mounted and then run the wires along and down to where your dvd or vcr is kept. Then plug your dvd/vcr in.
