Back in January I downloaded a flipchart called camera_viewer. It has one page with what appears to be a drop down for answers. The problem is, I can't figure out what to do with it. Can anyone help?

Hi there,

I have just had a look at the flipchart, I haven't got a clue what you are meant to do with it, however, I looked at the object properties and it is meant to open an embedded a file called camera.swf.

Maybe it has been submitted without the embedded file??

Thanks, Lou, for looking! It looks like it would be a nice thing to have, if I could figure out what to do with it.;)

Hi,
Good to see a new Promethean user in Georgia.

I am in atlanta and have been a Promethean user for 2 years.

Would be glad to help you in any way I can.
Cheers.

Well it does contain an embedded flash file called camera.swf but this flash movie doesn't play or do anything!

Hi fellow Georgian! I checked out your website---super! We're at opposite ends of the state, I see.

I am lovin' my Activboard and I come to this forum every single day just to make sure I don't miss something. I appreciate all the help I can get!+wave+

Do you guys get out much? NECC is in Atlanta this year, in case you didn't know - we could all meet and have a party!! Or have I got my geography wrong?

Hi Margaret,
It would be great to meet you and party at NECC.

Will you arrange to get me a pass to NECC?
I would even clean up and sweep the Promethean booth :)

Check out the instructions that it came with. You need to plug in a video device to your PC or laptop...

Webcam, Digital Microscope, USB Visualiser - then the image from it should appear live in the flipchart page for annotation, camera capture, etc.

If you are using a later MAC - it will also pick up the camera at the top of the screen...

Updated with instruction....

Hi Mark,

I'm not seeing the instructions? Thanks!

Mark,

Your description of what thisflp should do sounds very intriguing. Are the instructions the line beneath the screen?

I wonder if you/someone could help me. When I attach a usb webcam to my Mac PPC and click on the flp, all that happens is a small Adobe Flash Player Settings message box pops up (see attached). No matter which response I choose, nothing happens. The message box stays put and I close the flp, defeated. What am I missing?

Hi again, Mark. I am having the same problem as tomerf, using my Mac Powerbook G4 (running the latest version of AS2 for Mac and OX 10.4, if that's important). In the dropdown menu I am seeing "DV Video", but nothing happens when I click on "Allow" or "Deny". I am trying to use an iSight camera (firewire connection) and a USB scanner, both of which work fine outside the AS program.

On my school tablet PC running Windows XP and using AS3, I get nothing, not even the popup window. On that computer I have connected the same USB scanner which, again, works fine on its own.

Does "camera_viewer" work only when the computer is connected to the board?

I think this sounds very useful, if it works! Thanks for your help.

You needs to "allow" the security setting. This lets FLASH access video and audio devices.

Also check you have the latest FLASH plugin - download it from the Adobe website (ideally using Internet Explorer on a PC). I will do some more testing to ensure that Adobe have not changed the security behaviour of FLASH.

The expected behaviour is that the pull down menu lists and connected video devices and lets you view them. It seems to be seeing your DV Video input.

It does not need to be connected to the board.,

Mark,

Just to be sure: which Flash plugin are you referring to? This may be obvious to many but I have no background (yet) with Flash. Thanks...

Mark (or anyone else who is Flash facile),

I connected my webcam to a PC running AS3 and made sure I had the latest version of Flash. When I right-clicked on the permission screen that pops up in this flp and chose "settings", the radio button for Deny was selected. Nothing I clicked on changed that. Exploring the Adobe website did not reveal any further help. Their remote Setting Manager did not change the behavior of the dialogue box.

I am assuming that this flp does not actually work as intended. I love the thought of having a flipchart that can include a live video image. If anyone is able to create a working version of it, I will happily pay twice what was charged for the original! clwn

Hi Mark

I've found that the flash file works no problem on its own but when you insert it as a flash placeholder into the flipchart it doesn't work!

Using a mac too btw!

"I love the thought of having a flipchart that can include a live video image."

I agree this is an interesting feature- at a basic level you can just use the camera software that came with your web cam - and use Alt Tab in Windows to bring a resized camera window in front of the flipchart. You can build text and images around the camera to make live reports from different settings e.g. the Jungle, a talking newspaper reprt etc.

Some live camera ideas are contained in the attached flipchart. Unfortunately place holder setting doesn't allow communication with the camera so the swf files are embedded links.

Dan - Your scenes look great!

Mark - I missed your Flash file before but just downloaded it.

I can't wait to get to school to see how they work with the webcam. Thanks for polsting both of these!
