Download file in ActivPrimary

Greetings to the MAC forum,
Everytime I download a flipchart from the "Recent Resources" it defaults to an ActivPrimary file instead of ActivStudio. It doesn't matter what grade level it is, it ALWAYS shows up and opens up in ActivPrimary. Yes I can "Get Info" and change it to open with ActivStudio BUT the file icon still is in ActivPrimary. Any ideas why and how I can download in ActivStudio?

Hi Cheryl

I'm not sure if this is the explanation for your situation but I am sure that I have read that the reason this may be happening is because the downloaded flipcharts become associated with the last version of the software that you installed, which if it was AP in your case, might explain the situation.

Hi Cheryl

You can change the icon in the 'Get Info' window too if you already have an Activstudio flipchart with the correct icon.

Just highlight the icon, copy and paste between the 'Get Info' windows!

Let me know if you don't know what I mean.

Unfortunately this won't fix the download problem - I can only assume its something to do with the mime type or something!

Nothing to do with mime types on this occasion - purely to do with users OS settings for file handlers for .flps like people said above on a Windows system the application set as default handler for a file type is usually the last application installed that can handle those file types - in our case .flps.

Thank you all for your help. In my building I am the tech person to help all grade levels plus I am a music teacher and teach grade levels Kdg - 5th grade and that is the reason I installed both Primary and ActivStudio. I use the ActivStudio 98% of the time so if I uninstall Primary do you think my problem will go away? I know how to change the "Open With" default and copy and paste the icon so that it shows the proper application but that is such a pain. Thanks again for all your help and suggestions. I'll let you know how it works after uninstalling Primary.

Hi Cheryl

I know this is a pain and it happens to me usually when I download pdf files and jpegs as they default to open in Preview when I prefer to view them in Acrobat or Photoshop.

Instead of double-clicking on the files icon I usually right-click and select the 'Open with' option and select the application I want the file to open with from there. Doing this launches the application and opens the file. It's a bit quicker than changing the default application in the 'Get Info' window.

I'd try having a go at this and see how you get on first before uninstalling Activprimary as you may find that once you've uninstalled Activprimary, more often than not, you're gonna need it for something!
