Not sure if this is a technical term or a Prometheanism.... but the area which surrounds a page not visible unless you use the Page Scale option - +wave+ AS - its top right hand corner "s" in AP it's in the "..." option after Promethean Man.
ANYWAY... this area has all sorts of possibilities. Storing extra images, extra vocabulary, preprepared anything really. Not only does this mean you have all that you need on one page, but it means that you can also limit students to options too. I know one Primary school where they use this facility for children to create stories and the teacher limits their choice of character by only having a few available "in the world".
Alternatively if you don't want to reduce the page scale you can have words/pictures just off the edge of the page, so you can just see them peeping in. Easily pulled in, onto the page. Adding an arrow and grouping this with the object is another way of making them available.
I recently saw how a teacher had grouped an answer to a question to a thumbnail of a website. How cool is that? Having the website thumbnails available just off the page....means that you only go to the one which become necessary in response to the lesson as it progresses. Fantastic time saving whilst teaching keeping the pace going. [clap]
Seconded! I only found out about the 'world' relatively recently and it is such an increbilble concept.
I often group items with a picture of a hand with a pointing finger and just have the fingertip showing on the edge of the page.
I saw a flp LouB made that had a whole train (passengers and all) hiding off the side in 'the world' !

I often 'hide' key questions or learning intentions in the world to pull on when I want to use them in my teaching.
Another way that many people find useful is when using one page for differentiated group activities. Eg if you have a poem the class is looking at in the week but where each of the reading groups may be doing a different task associated to that poem. Have the group name visible so when it is their turn the children can 'pull' on their activity. It is also quite nice to record their instruction so it also becomes a way to reinforce listening skills too.
If the group work needs to be saved - save the page to 'my flipchart pages' and then reset the page before the next group has their turn...clwn

I love having things off the end, so that they can be dragged on when needed, but I often find that if I, say, have a box with text in attached to an arrow to pull on, when I move it off the page, the box and/or text pops back on. Why??
P.S. Sorry if that's a bit muddled, I'm reeeeeeally jet lagged and falling asleep on the spot. 40 hours and no sleep is not good for the system. Must remember I'm not 18 anymore...

Alison, go to Studio Settings > Flipchart Objects > uncheck Objects stay on page. That should fix your problem.

Robyn how do you do the same in AP I can't seem to find the right box to uncheck???? The same thing is happening to me when I use the "doodahs"

'Objects Stay On Page'
This setting is currently only available in Studio. In Primary it is automatically set to 'on'. This means that whenever you drag an object completely off the currently visible area it will automatically snap back into view.
The idea here was to stop objects becoming 'lost' .
One way around this behaviour is to move the object with the Free Mover Pickup (the one with the crossed arrows).
Another option would be for us to expose this setting in a future Primary release. Thoughts?

Hmmm...
Now I'm a little confused.
I'm using Activprimary version 3 and my text and image objects will move to and off the edge of the page and stay there. However, due to the cursor position while dragging an object, it is impossible to drag them completely off the page without reducing the Page scale down so that the "world" is visible.
It makes no difference if I am design mode or present mode.

OK. Place 2 shapes on the page side by side. Marquee select them both. Drag them to the edge so that one of the shapes moves completely out of view. When you stop the drag, the 'off-screen' shape snaps back to the edge of the visible area. This behaviour doesn't happen if you use the Free Mover pickup OR if the two objects form a group.

I always group the objects, but if the box is off the edge of the page, irrelevant of the fact that the arrow is still on, it pops back. The only thing I can think of is to then snapshot the grouped image and try that. Seems a bit convoluted though!

Bit of useless information for you - being a designer, its technical term is called a PASTEBOARD.
It comes from when print first became computerised and layout artists literally had to cut and paste strips of text when laying out magazines and newspapers so the space around the page became cluttered with these sticky strips of text!
And yes it definately is a useful area for storing stuff which you may or may not want to use in a lesson! +wave+

My problem in AP is that when using the "doodahs". (Their tabs are always visible.) When they are dragged onto the page we can add or take items out off them but when I put them back to the side/top the objects that are supposed to remain in them bounce back unto the page - although the doodahs stay at the side!!????

Hmmm.... I suspect that the text objects have a property of "return if not contained" applied to them. If you have version 3, you will be able to remove this property by removing the tick in the Container property dialog.

Hi Peter
Tried that but they do not have the "return if not contained" ticked. When I first used them I only had 2.5 and they worked fine. The problem has only arisen since AP3
P.S. just remembered they were your download!![clap]

Thanks Nigel
It seems that it is impossible to hide text off the page so that it is draggable in AP. If I group the objects I can't drag the text from the box! What I am trying to do is hide descriptive words off the page so that the children can drag each box on and choose one word from each box. I would love to see this being available in a future release of AP3
