Would someone please remind me how to create the magnifying glass? I saw it in a training, but must be leaving a step out. Thanks. ????

I think you're referring to a "magic viewer"?

First, make sure that the object you want to "look through" is on the top layer and whatever you want to reveal is on the middle layer or below.

Here are my steps:

1) Take a wide pen of any color except white and cover an area.

2) Then take the eraser tool and define an area.

3) I usually put a border (like the rectangle) of another color around the eraser.

4) Trash the pen annotation from #1.

5) With your select tool, surround the erasure and the rectangle, double-click and select the properties in the object edit toolbar.

6) Under Identification, check Group.

The mistakes I make the most are forgetting to put the object I want to see through on the top layer, and sometimes not getting the erasure grouped with the other "viewer" object.

Hope that helps!

Alternatively, if you dont want to make your own, you could search on here or in the resources section and you will find loads of premade ones!

Thank you for asking such a great question. I am new to Promethean and saw someone using the magic viewer but didn't try to do it myself. Now I have all the steps and even though I have not tried it yet am very excited to do so!

Here is one of the flips with some magic viewers in case you want to 'see' them...

I have a variety of magic erasers on my shortcut bar. Some I created myself and others I dragged from flipcharts I've seen.

One of the mistakes I made at first was bringing the magic eraser onto the page too soon. It needs to be added after the final top layer object is already on the page.

There is a sneaky trick to reduce the steps too or to create very precise masks.

Rather than making the "hole" with the eraser - you can draw the shape you need with a normal pen or highlighter and make it into an eraser!!!

This way you can see the exact shape of the mask that you want to make.

Make the shape with a pen or highlighter - then double click the annotation you have just made...(in design mode in AP) and choose properties and change the pen to "eraser" in the Appearance > Pen Type pull down menu.
