Not sure if this one has been mentioned before, but is it possible for 'deconstruct' to give you a choice of 'one word' or 'complete text box' please.

Every time I show it to someone I'm training they always ask 'can it deconstruct the whole text box? It would be very useful.

Why deconstruct a whole text box? Why not just double click on the text box and duplicate from the object edit menu? If you want to deconstruct a chunk of text from within a larger piece, drag over the required text to highlight it, then drag it on to another part of the page. I'm assuming you've got version three for this second option.

Why deconstruct a whole text box? .

So for example, I could turn a copied 50 word poem etc into 50 individual text boxes without doing the same action 50 times.

You didn't originally make it clear that you wanted to deconstruct every single word in the paragraph individually!

So what you're really after is 'Deconstruct paragraph as individual words'?

Hi Toby

It can deconstruct the whole text box, but you have to use V3. If you select the whole text box and add an action to that selected text - deconstruct text from the drop down in the V3 Object properties options.... this works a dream!{}

The only thing to remember though with an action such as this attached you cannot do anything else to the text, ie colour ind. words and such like as the action is to deconstruct...if that makes sense?+wave+

So what you're really after is 'Deconstruct paragraph as individual words'? Sorry if I wasn't clear but what else could 'Deconstruct whole paragraph' mean?

Thanks Margaret, I'll have a play with this but adding actions is not really what I was after. If there was a choice of deconstruct 'this word' or 'all words in this text box' we could make magnetic poetry type exercises in a few clicks.

Has no one else been asked for this? Several people I have taught 'deconstruct' to have asked for this feature.

I may be misunderstanding here but in V3 you can deconstruct the whole paragraph. I use it all the time and it is a brilliant feature. If you double click on the paragraph to select it, then select properties in the object edit menu, actions, object and then in the dropdown menu deconstruct text.

Now when you click on any word in the paragraph it will make an exact copy of that on word.

I use it to demonstrate types of words. I have a paragraph at the top of the page and then three boxes with Nouns, Verbs and Adjectives at the bottom. The pupils choose a word, click on it and then drag the copy into the correct box.

Setting the paragraph to deconstruct doesn't mean that you can't use the fill tool. In the above activity we start out looking at nouns. First I disable the actions by clicking the arrow in the top right corner of the flipchart page. The children use the fill tool to colour all the nouns.

Then by clicking the arrow in the top right corner again I turn the action on and the words can be dragged and put into the correct box at the bottom.

Does that make sense. I can see if I can find my example to post I anyone is interested.

You can also right click (MAC - Control Click) the word, and then choose "Deconstruct" from the menu that comes up.
