Being a geometry teacher of sound mind and body, I would love to see a triangle on the pen tool box. I know that we can use the point to point, but it would be nice to have a triangle like the rectangle or the square. Please, please, please!!!+wave+

Hmm...
This would mean we would have to have a scalene, an equilateral, a right angled, an isoceles etc. etc.
It would be easier to use the pre formed triangles in the shape library....No, actually it would be easier to use the point to point tool!!!

Yes, but would it possible to have a editable tool that could change the shape, like in word, where you can chacnge the orientation of the shape. The slant and so on. That way, a square can be made into a rhombus and a rectangle into a quadralateral. Just a thaught. :-/

Yes, that would be nice! I have been asking for this feature for a while but it hasn't made it into the software yet. Maybe V4? {}

Well then you would think if you were asking, the second Promethean employee, and I was asking, Ms. October:rolleyes: , it would certianly be done for a future version.

Actually the first employee

On a slightly different but related tack, a Maths teacher has asked if it's possible to modify a triangle and, simultaneously, to read measured changes in angle size - similar to flash functions that increase the gradients of line graphs when the coefficient is altered.
Can this be done in AS? Or are there other bits of software available?

I think all these issues could be addressed if Bezier lines/curves were introduced into AS.

Try Geogebra (free)
http://www.geogebra.org
You can construct as many interactive shapes - with dynamic angle measurement, etc.

Thanks, Mark and Vicky - I'm always amazed at how quickly one is able to get a response, and a useful one at that,[clap] through this forum. it's probably quicker than walking around the school or trawling through help files.

Don't forget you can create a triangle with the point to point tool, then drag it onto your Activstudio toolbar. When you need a triangle you can drag it onto the page and re-size it. You can also use the fill tool to fill in a triangle and have both line and solid versions.

I like this idea of simple interactive shapes...
I've made some for triangles and quadrilaterals. You can drag the vertices and switch on and off labels for them.
Ideal for modelling use of ruler and protractor or getting kids to make various shapes and name/describe them.
I also added a simple Scientific Calculator with Random Number and Rounding functions.
Fantastic, mark - thanks!
I think the calculator has a particularly appealing look to it too...

How do you get the rounding function buttons to work? They don't seem to do anything when I hit them.

This is great, Mark. I can't wait to share it! Thanks.

Mark, how is this done? And can we bring this to our library or do we need to add the whole page and save that?

I think there are two ways to do this.
To add the page itself to your library:
Open the resource library to My Pages (or Shared flipchart pages) and right click on the page (but not on an object on the page) and you should see Add to Library>page. (You may have to disable actions or go to design mode to do this as the object does take up most of the page.) Then name the page.
To add the flash file itself to the resource library. (You can add this to the Activities folder or to the Collections folder) First you have to disable actions (or go in Design mode.) Then click on the flash file. You should see it has "handles" on it. Grab the "hand" handle and drag it into the library and name it.
FYI, I am making a Math Resource Pack out of many of the top math-oriented resources posted on the forum. I will add these three items in this new Resource Pack and make it available to all.
Expect it in the next week or so.

These will be very useful Mark - thanks for sharing.
On a similar theme here is a virtual pinboard application for creating and manipulating a polygon of a given number of sides. A version of this has previously been posted to the resources section under the name of virtual pinpoard.
Might be useful for the Maths pack.

Oooh! How cool! I'll add that one, for sure!
