Is it possible to copy text from WORD to AP? Will it maintain Font?

Hi there
The answer is YES to both questions!
Strangely enough we were shown this in some recent training (thanks Margaret ;) ), so if I don't explain it clearly/properly I'm sure Margaret will help you/me out.
There are apparently a couple of ways of copying text from Word to AP, but the following was suggested as being the better:
In Word highlight the text that you want to copy, then Ctrl C to copy - Return to/Open AP and the chosen flipchart page - Click on T (Text editor tool) and create a text box on the page - Then paste by using Ctrl V - that should be it graemlins/icon_biggrin.gif . You can now treat the text as an object, ie make it bigger/smaller AND also as text as you would in Word.
Hope it makes sense!

Perfect Sarah!
Obviously good training smile.gif smile.gif
However, the only thing is that currently you do have limited font options in Primary and so you may be disappointed if you are expecting this method to maintain original font.
There is a move afoot in the next update to offer a wider range of fonts though.

Greta! That's exactly what I tried! Any Reason why it might not work on a Promethean new board?

I am not sure why it won't work you may need to be more specific in what you are doing in case you are missing out a stage
One thing did spring to mind.
Once you have copied your text from word....
You then return to your page.
When you click on the "T",
You then click on the page which will give you a "text box" into which you can then ctrl+v to paste your text in.
Hope this won't confuse, but if you are in design mode you can right click into that text box and that will offer you the option to paste the text in too...... graemlins/clap.gif

PS The only other thing I thought of.... you may be using a "new" board but is your software up to date?
I just wondered whether as you registered in Jan 2003 you may well be using out of date software for AP.
If you click on the Promethean Man and then
on the "..."
and then About ACTIVprimary
I am currently on version 1.2 Build 1.
It shouldn't make any difference for this particular issue, but it is always as well to be as up to date as poss. if you are struggling with something in case there are any gremlins lurking.....

Hi there
Can anyone shed any light on this problem? graemlins/help.gif
I can happily copy text from a Word 97 document into AP on my standalone machine (using the method explained in my reply above) but I can't seem to get it to work on my laptop, which is running XP Word!
Both machines have the latest patch installed.
I'm guessing it's an XP thing but I wondered if anyone else has come across this problem and found a way around it.
Thanks

That doesn't make any sense, Sarah.
Are you using "pure" Word. i.e. does the text originate from Word or was it copied from elsewhere?
The only other suggestion you could try, which is a bit longwinded is to copy the text into Word Pad and then repeat the copy and paste process.
Still a mystery though

Hi Sarah
I've got Word XP and I've just copied and pasted some text with no problem. I'm also on AP 1.2 Build 1.
Following this, I tried another little experiment and copied and pasted some text in a non-AP font from Word XP - a font called Calligrapher onto an AP flipchart page. It worked and showed the Calligrapher font - which I was then able to edit ie resize, recolour or actually edit the words in the text. This contradicts something said earlier, but it worked for me. Hmmm!
Cheers

Thanks for both replies.
I've tried again and it still isn't working - so it must be my machine.
Thanks anyway.

Hi Sarah,
I have the new board, software and XP and I tend to use the 'highlight and right mouse click' way of copying...then into Activ P..click on text click on the board and right mouse click again for paste.
Hope it helps...

I'm back on this problem again!!
I have tried all the different ways of copying and pasting but it still refuses to paste text from Word (2002 version) - however I have found a way around it. After copying from Word and then opening a flipchart if I am in Design Mode and then right click I can 'Paste Image from Clipboard' and that works - but it will not paste it as text - don't get it!!!

As its you..... I have forwarded your query onto higher intelligence to see if he can shed any light on it.

Hi Sarah
I have Word 2002 (Service Pack 3)so thought I would try it out.
Type somehing in word, change its font, style colour etc.
Select it, right click, copy.
Go to ACTIVprimary flipchart page. Choose the T tool and click the insertion point anywhere on the page. Right click near the insertion point and choose paste. Voila! Well, it works for me!

By the way, Ctrl-V works as well once you have an insertion point. I even pasted in some wingdings. Its quite good fun using them as code breakers. I use this with my KS1 class of board members at board meeting for a warm up, starter exercise :D
Seriously though, type the word "bread" in word, change it to the wingdings font, copy and paste into ACTIVprimary. Explain that these symbols stand for "bread".
Then ask them to decode the wingdings for bread board, bread knife etc. You will no doubt be able to think of much more interesting words. graemlins/wave.gif

I seem to remember some time in the past having had this problem. The thing I was forgetting to do was having copied the Word text, then in the AP tools clicking "T" for text actually remembering to click with the pen on the board so that it knew where to insert the text - so obvious, that's why I forgot to do it! Doh!!

Thanks to everyone, but I'm sure I'm not doing it wrong and it just doesn't want to know!!! It works on my other laptop and other PC so I can only guess it may have something to do with the Word set up - I've found a way around so that'll have to do.
Thanks again. graemlins/wave.gif
