Hi
Our Head of IT visited the Promethean Summit Conference hosted at Old Windsor in October of this year.
He was talking to one of the "software gurus" who told him there was a software alternative to activ vote that we could run on our laptops instead of using the actual activ vote handheld units. We have not heard back from Promethean on this matter and was wondering if any others out there have heard of such a program.
It would a great alternative if such a program exisited for schools with a laptop program.
many thanks

I haven't heard of another voting "software" but I know that there are third parties that make hand held voting devices for students. I am confused though as to why having laptops would make a difference for using ACTIVotes or not - because I have seen many schools where the teachers have laptops as their main computer - and the ACTIVotes still work on their board. Maybe I didn't read your posting correctly, but I don't understand as to why the laptop would stop the ACTIVotes from being able to being used. Do you all have ACTIVpanels instead of the ACTIVboard? If you do have the panels, then you would need an ACTIVhub to be able to use the ACTIVotes.
This may not be helpful at all, but at least some feedback is usually appreciated, right? ;) Good luck getting your answers. :-/

Thankyou Tai_Ann - feedback is always appreciated.
Maybe I should have explained that the students all have laptops too and I was hoping for some software that they could run on their machines to vote rather than investing in the handhled devices.
cheers

There is some software, ACTIVote VR, that can run on networked laptops to allow them to simulate an ACTIVote handset. I hope someone who can be more help jumps in soon.

Activote VR for MAC networks already exists. Activote VR for PC networks will be previewed at BETT07 in our School of Tommorow room.
It should be ready for release in the 1st quarter of 2007 +wave+

Many Thanks Lee and Peter - I think this may be it - great response from the forum as usual - I will keep an eye out for this software.

On the US marketing site, they have a little blub about Activote VR. There is an image of a computer with it on the screen. It's a Mac (iBook).
