Hi All,
I draw a diag using "Snap to Grid". Can I group this diag, move it, keeping it snapped to the grid and add further bits? I have in mind drawing circuit components, then drawing circuits.

Hello Joe
Ooh I'm having difficulty getting my head round this but here goes: the snap to grid function works on the grid which in effect is a background. If you group your objects they will stay in the same relative position to each other when you move them whether snap to grid is on or not. If you move the whole group elsewhere over the grid while the snap to grid function is on, the group will snap to the nearest part of the grid.
If you add more objects, the new object would snap to the nearest part of the grid irrespective of where the group might be. So it may difficult getting things to line up properly. However you might experiment by getting the main group in the right place on the page over the grid so that future additions snap to grid as long as they're close to the right place.
I hope this makes sense. It will be easier to do in version three as you will be able to tell an object where on the page it should snap to. You will also be able to define which part of the object snapes to the grid.

I find the snap to grid funtion only useful in certain situations. It isn't very helpful for text in tables for example.
Any prospect of alignment functions ?

This sounds like an excellent use for the Snap to Grid function - you will need to play around with the position of your "wires" as components will snap to align on their left side to the grid.
Remember you can also alter the grid scale (double-click on the page with the grid, then select the + or - to enlarge or reduce the grid size)
Reminds me of those old "breadboards" we used to use for setting up simple circuits.
I think there is a Flipchart of ready-made electrical symbols in the Promethean resources.

But what if I want them to align on the right, or centre?
And aligning text boxes and annotoations often doesn't do what I want.
Ordinary alignment functionality would be great.

That sounds more like it. :-/ (Only thing is : retirement beckons).
I'm really looking for a Promethean clipboard version of the excellent Crocodile Clips I suppose.

In version 3 (Jan 07) there is an align feature. Just marquee select the objects to align, right click, Edit/Align and choose bottom, top, left , right etc and voila! They line up.
