Hi
A guy in Southampton called Damian has been posting some amazing flps. You should go and download them all now. If you go to "recently submitted resources" [clap] Some include voting, some are just beautifully crafted!+wave+

The only problem being "which are Damien's!". There are currently 6 pages of recent resources but I can't see who created them without opening each one.Is it possible to search in resources for the person submitting the resources? Sometimes I find a really good one and would like to see what else that person has made!+wave+
I have to agree, they are really good!
Caryn: If you click on the recent flipcharts and then click on the image, it will tell you more about the flipchart and who submitted it.
I love your idea of being able to search for other resources made by the same person![clap] [clap]

If you look on the 5th November within the recent resources there are some of Damians there - e.g suffixes. I think I read somewhere on the forum that Promethean are hoping to develop the idea of making links to other resources submitted by the same author.
Hope that helps.

Also love Pete's fantastic CVC word generator! Can't wait to use this to introduce blending next year![clap] [clap] [clap] [clap]

Can't get the CVC generator to work!! ???? It opens fine, but then nothing happens when I click on it. I've checked under design more and it does say to open embedded file, but nothing happens. I do get the arrow link though. Any ideas?? I really wanted to use this!! ????

Make sure you've installed the very latest flash player from:
http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/
Then reopen the flipchart and try again.

Hi Caryn - Lou
One of the phase 2 of planet upgrades/enhancements I am considering is the ability to list other resources by the same author - working on that soon so should not be too long before you see that capability.
Brilliant! Will look forward to that!
Well done Cliff! [clap] [clap] [clap]

Oh no, oh no, oh no!!!! This was simply awful, but I know it will cheer other people up...
Used the CVC word generator with my class today for the first time and decided to explain its use to my Teaching Assistant, as I thought she'd really enjoy using it with her little groups. (She does phonic work across KS1)
Demonstrated its use fine and we made the word 'red' then unheld all the letters and hit play again to show how you get a whole new word. The letters that came up?.........

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGG GGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!
This was soooooooo not good, but we were crying for the rest of the lesson. She can't even look at me anymore. Pete? Is there any way at all that this could be changed to avoid this in the future? Pleeease!! ????
*sigh* Off for therapy now and to try and explain to the Head.....

Oh well - these things do happen!
The slot machine does actually have a filter list in it to take out words that could cause offense but the combination you encountered wasn't in it. The example attached here has that word added to the filter. If you hold and deliberately try to make a "naughty" word the held letters will be bounced out so the word is not completed.
However, when you're doing word play activities you do have to be prepared for all eventualities!

Thanks Dan! [clap]
I just tried it and it seemed ok. It was bouncing letters when I couldn't see how the word would need filtering, but I'm all for over-cautious!! Just checking...c o x isn't allowed, is it?! :D
I'll tell you what though, all my staff suddenly wanted to use the generator once the story spread! Grown ups, eh?!

Actually cox is a possibility - but there again it is a legitimate word.
Cok for example is on the filtered list along with the other usual suspects.
I think you have to be prepared to deal with with these sort of issues when doing phonic work. After all, if the pupils were manipulating paper word wheels to create CVC words there are bound to be combinations that cause a range of reactions. What's important is how you deal with it.

Any way you administrators could go into flipcharts I have sumitted and add my username: Damian3279 into the keyword list. As well as making them available to others it would be great for me to check for flipcharts I have already added.

The ability to list by submitted user is on the list of todo things - but then so is a few thousand more! As soon as we can give some focus to second stage work this will be one of the first things we do.

I found a couple of interesting ones tonight by a lady called Helen Hitchens. She's used a technique I haven't seen before - put a red rectangle on one half of the page, a black on the other half. Then use text boxes - first half the text black, second half red. The text has to be moved to the centre to reveal the hidden text. Simple but very effective.
I'm not sure if this is something that lots of people know about, but hopefully it might be useful to others.
I've attached my own version (inspired by Helen) - adding 'ing' to verbs.
Cheers,
Wendy

Hi Wendy
I've used this idea quite a lot. If you look at the flipchart I have attached below you could also present it this way so that you can move the whole word over into the black rectangle to see the change - obviously it won't work with 'hope' so I have put 'hope' in black and 'hoping' in red. Have a look and see what you think.
I have also attached a flipchart that I made using the 2nd technique to show how the idea could be used in maths for instance.

Hi Sarah,+wave+
I loved your wizard maths one! What a great idea to have a 'converter' in the middle to jazz up the colour change. A telephone box, time machine etc would also be fun.
Thanks for this - oops, sorry about 'hopeing!' I'll blame that one on being distracted by the bright colours. ;)
Cheers,
Wendy

Here is the magic wizard one which I downloaded a while ago and added pages for my class for adding and subtracting 9, 10 and 11 (linked to the 100 square) Thought the extra pages might be of use to someone!

Thank you - I have added those pages to my old flipchart - My class are a little more switched on than my last class so I will need 10 more and 10 less so that has saved me a job for the future.
