I am setting up activote on a new machine and am trying to register the devices. I have the latest drivers and V2.5 (82) installed. I am also using an Activhub. When I try to register the devices I am getting a picture of the old voting device with numbers and am thus unable to register the devices. I have solved this problem before but am failing on this machine at the moment. Any ideas?

I have had a similar problem of the old ACTIVote image being portrayed and not being able to vote. How I solved the problem finally, was to restart my computer. I tried a hundred other ways before I tried that - and it finally solved my problem. However- I was connected to my board. I think that you need to be connected to your board in order to register the votes. If you have old vote numbers still registered, you can clear those once you select "DEVICES" on the ACTIVote screen.
My suggestions:
1. Connect to the board (not just the hub)
2. Restart your computer.
3. Clear your old devices - then you can reregister them with new numbers.
4. Call tech support!! :) Sorry if this didn't help. :) Just trying to be helpful.

Thanks for that.

I plugged my laptop into the board. This allowed me to setup the correct driver from device manager (from Human Interface device to Activboard). Having then unplugged the board and plugged in the hub I now have the correct image and can register devices. Clearly a glitch somewhere but for the moment problem solved!

I think that the board has to be connected initially to register the votes because the radio transmitter/reciever on the board is what acknowledges the votes' radio waves. If the board isn't connected, the votes aren't voting - because the radio transmitter/reciever isn't getting the waves. :) I'm glad that you have your problem solved for now. :)

You will be able to setup and register voting to a hub without any need for a board - in the case where you will be using the voting set with a Promethean board it would be logical to register your devices directly with the board.

If you have problems with the old voting registration interface being displayed, try closing down the activ software, removing the USB hub and reinserting it and then restarting the registration process. If the problem persists reboot the machine to clear this problem.

Hi

I would add to that, turning off the power to the board too, in effect resetting the system.

Just to add my twopennyworth regarding the registering of devices to hub/board. If you think of the voting being a triangle. ;)

Votes + receiver (hub or board) + pc/laptop. If these three remain constant then the system is set up and registered. {} If any one of these three points of the triangle changes ie board/hub or pc/laptop or votes then there is every chance you will need to reregister. +wave+ If you keep them the same then you should have no further problems with voting working with your set up. [clap] BUT do not assume that once you have registered your devices to any random hub or board that this then means that they will always work, as the chances are they won't.

And remember don't plug a hub and board in at the same time, as the hub is effectively a board in disguise and poor old votes won't know who they belong to!

I ike the trainlgle analogy - makes it much easier to explain. Thanks Margaret.
