I've attached a part of the flipchart I use to teach my 7th graders the rules for Natural Number Exponents.
I was using the ACTIVotes are for review sessions, but I found that the kids were just using process of elimination to find the correct answer. Although this is an excellent test-taking strategy, the majority of our weekly assessments were open-ended. So, I've started putting in a few multiple choice questions after I taught an isolated skill to do a quick check for understanding. The kids love it, and they stay engaged for the entire lesson so they can use the pods!
Thanks,
