Hi there +wave+

This is my first time posting on the forum so apologies for any mistakes!

My Maths department got Promethean technology back in June and I haven't stopped playing around since... hooray for ActivStudio! :)

I've been planning to start contributing to the forum for a while but wanted to wait until I had a good reason. Hopefully now I've found it!

Inspired by recent discussions about magnifiers and x-ray windows I managed to create my own and I've put one a flipchart along with instructions on how to use it.

For anyone who doesn't know what I'm talking about, it's a magnfying glass which can be used to reveal 'hidden' objects on the page. It looks sort of like this:

I know there's already some other similar resources floating about on the forum... hopefully people will still find this useful all the same!

Bye for now and let me know what you think,

Tim

Welcome Tim.... +wave+

Thanks for the magnifiers... as you say there have been some others posted/shared already, but it is always good to have a range and thanks for your enthusiasm in creating them.

Look forward to some of your other inspirational discoveries/inventions/resources. [clap]

Hi there, +wave+ thanks for the advice Peter!

I wasn't sure if it was appropriate to start advertising my blog through the forum but now you've put my mind at ease :)

If anyone's interested in my blog it can be found by going to:

http://www.timschmitz.co.uk (http://www.timschmitz.co.uk/)

The idea is to provide loads of quick, simple hints and tips for teachers who don't have a lot of spare time... the classroom is a busy place after all! :)

I've also uploaded quite a lot of useful flipchart resources, including the x-ray magnifier from my post above.

Thanks again for letting me promote myself... Hope nobody minds!

Nice Blog, Tim. I, too, have been promising myself for a while that I'll get blogging. Not too distant future for me I think.

Yes - thanks for the auto date flipchart template - very useful for us AP users who don't have the timestamp option you talk about - maybe that's one for the designers/programmers to put in their wishlist - please!

Another thing.... can some one explain to me how the magnifier x ray thing works eg how to create one as I can do the layers and all is well but the xray magnifier has me stumper... LOVE it though, even if you are from the little Australian 'wanna-be' community!!!! :D

No racial hatred intended... this is normal for Aussies and Kiwi's... really! (Ask Dug)

If you open up the flipchart posted in Tim's first post he has written a brilliant description of how to make one on page 2 of the flipchart.

Hope that helps!

If you mean actually making the magnifier itself then check out these 2 threads as it has been discussed and explained really well.
THIS ONE (http://www.Prometheanworld.com/common/html/vb_forum/showthread.php?t=1013&page=1&pp=10&highlight=eraser) and THIS ONE (http://www.Prometheanworld.com/common/html/vb_forum/showthread.php?t=1214) +wave+

The whole point of the forum is to help those that don't, can't (because they aren't there yet ;)) or won't read the help files :D

Oh, I must've misunderstood. I thought the whole point of the forum was to suck your life away and provide idle distraction in the evenings.:D;)

If you go to the toolstore, (Menu>Customise>Toolstore) you will find an icon there (in Power Tools) called Flipchart Timestamp that you can drag on to your toolbox.
