Our school is just starting to build a VLE (using Moodle) that will allow pupils to access files and activities from home. How easy is it for pupils to access flipcharts - and what are the copyright/licencing issues? Ideally we would like them to be able to "repeat" activities that they have dome in class - moving objects etc. rather than simply "view" the flips. Is this possible - and how easy will it be? I've downloaded the flipchart viewer as a test, which was straight forward, but doesn't allow students to move objects around.

Try the Student Version instead. It comes on the AS installation CD. More functionality than the viewer. :)

Ok, I had thought of that, but I'm not sure how to make it available to many students. Can they download it from the Promethean website? Can the school make it available to them for use at home - and if so what would be the best way to do it. What are the licencing implications? All this is still in the ideas stage at the moment though - we are still trying to understand how to use the VLE.

Hi Dave,

We used to have it as a freedownload but that facility was abused as it was seen as a good way of being able to use our resources on our website without having to pay for anything from Promethean and so now the viewer replaces this facility, but you as a Promethean School have a freely distributable version in Student edition. You can hand this out to as many students as you like. Maybe you will need to burn some cds???

Does that help?

Thanks Margaret

It confirms what I suspected - lots of CD burning. This idea is still in its infancy, so I'll let you know if I have any more thoughts/problems
:p Dave

Our kids were pretty good at inisrtalling at home and handing on the CD to the next person. I made 5 then divided the class into teams - box of choccies for first team to complete the install relay. Amazing how fast they can go when chocolate is on offer! It is a girls school - might make a difference - my motivation is encouraged by chocolate too! +wave+

...another thought occurs to me... if you were able to demonstrate to Promethean that your VLE was secure perhaps they may allow you to put the Student Version on as a download??
