View Full Version : Save without embeded links?

Hi,

With my teachers becoming more and more adventurous with flipcharts, embeding multimedia videos and sounds that are stored on the network, the size of flipcharts are becoming HUGE.

I was wondering if in activprimary 2.5, there is a way of saving flipcharts WITHOUT embeding the links - i know its a pretty backwards request, but sometimes, it makes more sense to just link to the object which is stored on the network somewhere instead of wasting valuable Mb's by embeding the object into the flipchart, essentially duplicating the file on the network.

Does that make sense?

Thanks

Reuben

Hi Reuben,

You make a very valid point, the reason that we have embedded links was to ensure that the "less able" users would never "forget" their link when moving resources from one place to another, but I take your point and will seek advice from others on this point!

Thanks +wave+

Mr Rosthorn.... there was me thinking you knew this software!!! :D

You don't need to embed in AS2 you have the option to just link.....+wave+

I do but it enjoys to keep embedding things on its own periodically.

oh right... I thought it was strange that you didn't know this and thought there must be another "issue" floating around....+wave+

I thought AP2 was functionally (is that even a word?!) identical to AS2!!!!!!!!! TBH it should be

Don't get me started on this one and Dug you are banned from commenting if you come here   ;) ;) :D - it virtually has the same and the reason we kept it to one option is that in my experience Primary teachers preferred to have everything in one place when they transferred it over and shared it with others, because possibly then in the main they didn't have their own laptops, whereas in Sec. ICT technicians abound and are there to assist!

When I was supporting Primary teachers and they were using that Bill Gates Presentation Program ;) before iwb software I can't tell you how many disgruntled teachers I spoke to who had "left" their linked "file/doc" on their home computer or worse come to do a presentation outside of school at a conference or something and plug their usb stick in and then would say, but it worked on my computer this morning...... thereby volunteering a lack of apparent knowledge!

Trying to accommodate those "that can" and those "that find it more challenging" is a tough call and I have to say that I tend to lean towards those that need a bit more help as those "that can" can normally work around issues... but it is generally those "that can" that request the more intricate features and again that is also a tough call from our perspective...

Now then.... I am actually in San Diego at NECC (BETT equivalent) and am 8 hours behind you guys.. so keep posting and I will try to keep up!![clap]

Margaret,

Thanks for your response and teachers losing links when transfering flipcharts to another school is a perfectly good reason why they are automatically embeded in Activprimary - i guess, at least the OPTION - even if automatic embeding is the default setting and you have to go through several options to turn it off, the OPTION of not automatically embeding links would be nice.

Im actually one of few I.T technicians that works full time in a primary school - KS2 use Activstudio so we dont have this problem but KS1 teachers with Activprimary are just as adventurous as their colleagues in the upperyears but primary doesnt allow them (IN THIS RESPECT ONLY) to be as flexible:( ...

I'm saying nothing! My views are already well documented. :-)
