We are thinking of buying visualisers to attach to the projectors. The current one we are considering allows you to save the picture to the PC as well - then we could import it into AP and annotate - great for sharing children's work, editing, peer assessing etc. - much quicker and easier than scanning.

Is anyone already using one and, if so, how's it going?

Thanks.

We have them in every class. They are FANTASTIC!!!!. We use the AverVision 130 which is about 300GBP (you do need the little light fitting thing for best results) .
A few uses:
Pop a child's whiteboard under it,
Pop a child's book umder it,
Look at snails, plants, flowers, fircones, Art work etc etc etc
Use the 'capture' tool in AP rather than using the capture feature on the visualiser (cuts out the middle-man).
Capture texts/pages from books (fron ORT - Shakespeare).
I used to use a scanner for this sort of thing but couldn't live without the visualiser now.
Guardian newspaper interviewed me a week or so ago and I couldn't shut up about them. The article is in next Tuesday's 'Evaluate' supplement in the Guardian so there may be mention.
Go for it!

Thanks Dug - always good to know that other people have been there and tried it. i think we're going to go for one per year group to start with. We're looking at the AVerVision 300p (www.averm.co.uk/avermedia/aver/products_documentcamera.asp) and our LA are trying to get us sponsorship from the company as they are trying to promote in our area. Fingers crossed!

If you like the idea of the AverVision 130 that Dug uses
you can get them with Tesco Computers for School vouchers
P15 in the catalogue - 9,300 vouchers.
I am so glad they are good ...... I have just ordered 2

This sounds like something I've been searching for for years. I tried flexcams but the lighting was never good enough. The ability to easily show pupils' work could really enhance teaching.[clap]

I'm off to look into this!

Light is an issue, Dave. That's why I'd recommend the additional light attachment. (We tried angle poises and cheapo Ikea jobs but they didn't quite cut it).

Just a slight word of caution here... .there is a marked difference in quality and yes price (!)...but you do get what you pay for. I am not suggesting you buy the most expensive, but I do know schools where they have bought the cheaper options and actually the visualisers then don't get used as their reproduction of the image is actually quite poor.

I would advocate one or two really good ones is better than a whole school implementation. The issue is also use, I think we need to be careful not to be replicating material which can so easily be shown up on the board anyway??

Yes they are a very powerful addition and would clearly be a good investment, but just be careful about what you buy is all that I am saying. Light/bulb power is important!
