Hi,

I'm sure I'm being rubbish, or that this has been covered before, but how come some flash files open up inside the flipchart and some open up outside, putting you in desktop capture mode? Is there a way to make sure the files open up inside the flipchart? ????

Thanks!

If they are genuine Flash Files and have a .swf extension then you have a choice of two methods:

1) The placeholder - right click on the page background (design mode) and select insert link object, select the the three dots to browse for the .swf file, then put a tick in the placeholder box and click OK and then OK again.

In presentation mode your flash file will play in this embeded mode allowing you to annotate over the top of it. When you turn the page and then turn back again your flash application reloads.

2) If you want your flash application to float in its own window inside AP then do the same as above but don't select the placeholder option, choose icon or text instead, or use an image file as the link action object. When you use this method and change pages the flash window stays open, but annotations cannot be applied directly to the flash window as they go behind it. However if you go into desktop mode these windows can be annotated. In this instance you will need to check that in settings - linked file hosting - you have shockwave flash movies ticked as a linked file.

If the files are actually in .exe format rather than .swf they will always open in a new external window.

Hope this helps.

Ah, thanks Dan. That makes sense now. The files are .exe

Sorry to tag on the bottom with my own 'Flash Help' appeal but I'm really frustrated now. I've just got a new laptop and made sure I went online and downloaded the latest Shockwave and Flash players. However, I don't seem to be able to run a stand alone swf file - like an NNS ITP for instance, the files appear as unallocated to a particular program. If I choose 'open with' I can't find flash in the list and neither can I locate an exe for flash if I browse. If I opt to look on the internet, I'm merely directed to the Adobe/Macromedia download site. Interestingly, I can view flash files on web pages and the NNS ITPs from within AP2.
Am I missing something?

Associate the Flash files with IE or your preferred browser - the flash player embeds in the browser. However, you may get some annoying security warnings, but if you click through these, the flash file should play OK.

Or download this free swf player http://www.globfx.com/products/swfplayer/ and associate files to open with it.

Or if you store these files in your AP Activities folder they will launch from within AP when you go to the Activities area.

Hey this is techie for me  [clap]
