I have been on a trip today, we took our digital blue camera with us - when I got back to school I downloaded the video clips, exported them and saved them as windows media files. I then started to make my flipchart about the trip for tomorrows lesson - I wanted to import the video clips into AP - initially the avi files would only play the sound and not the images, so I resaved them as wmv files. These will play in AP - fine, then trying to make my flipchart even better I went to put a placeholder in so I don't have to click the link - IT WON'T DO IT - I feel like crying!!!!!

I have spoken to the technical support team - the man I spoke to said you can't have a placeholder with avi or wmv files! Pretty please - can you develop the software so that this can happen?

Thanks

Sorry to rant - just really disappointed

Hi,

Unfortunately the placeholder option isn't available for wmv files but it certainly is for avi files

Sorry, the above reply is misleading due to my faulty memory!!
avi files created using the digital blue camera won't play correctly on the placeholder, nor will the screen recorder avi files. This is a known issue that is being looked at.

Thanks Dan for jogging my memory!!

What files can be played on the placeholder?

As far as I know its mpeg files.

Hi

This is completely unhelpful, but am glad you have posted as you have Louise as that is what I thought was the problem, but decided as it was a bit techie for me I wouldn't venture there.

So, although it doesn't help anyone using the software  I feel gently smug!! :D

I showed the compass today to a mixed audience of different board users, the sharp intakes of breath and oooos and aaahhs were great! [clap]

There is software that will convert wmv and avi files into mpegs, but it makes the files V E R Y big, but it is a possible solution until AP3 - when's that, then, Margaret??? ;).

It's never quire as simple as you think!

AVI files are not all the same, different camera software uses different codecs all under the avi heading. I can successfully use the placeholder setting on some AVI, files but not all. There was a time I could even placeholder digi blue AVI files - but not with the current software versions.

Even my usually reliable video converter (Xilisoft) refuses to change digi blue avi format into mpeg. Flash will of course do the job - but that isn't a solution for the majority of uses.

Hi

For info. I have been told this....

Due to license restrctions the "techsmith codec" required to allows AVIs made with the screen recorder to be embedded in flipchart pages cannot be shipped with the product

It can be downloaded and from:
