View Full Version : Do you need a magnifier?
Don't know if people know about this (AS users need pay no attention as you already have a magnifier built into the software):
http://magnifier.sourceforge.net/
I find it really useful when looking at works of art (Botticelli's 'Mystic Nativity' really needs it for the fabulous little details {a MUST for the run up to Christmas}).
Obviously its nowhere near as clever as the 'magic' magnifiers, but good nonetheless.

I went to visit Dug and Myrtle today... but Myrtle wasn't there :(
This magnifier is soooo cool... we were trying to see if we could link to it on a page.... and didn't get very far... so you techie lot out there....how can we get it to launch in the flipchart without having to do what Dug currently does which is to expose the taskbar and launch it from the shortcut on the taskbar at the bottom right hand corner..+wave+

Well, I've a question and an answer!
First the question, Dug, how do you "expose the taskbar and launch it from the shortcut on the taskbar at the bottom right hand corner" other than by clicking on the Desktop Mode icon? I'm obviously missing something. In other words, how do you expose the taskbar to launch anything?
Second the solution to launching the magnifier - which is reeeallly cooool from within AP2. Before opening AP2, right click on the magnifier on the task bar and tick "Hot Key Invoke".
Open AP2. Do Ctrl-Alt-E (i.e. hold those three keys down together) and hey presto, the magnifier will appear. {}
To get rid of it, just press Esc. +wave+

What a handy magnifier - thanks [clap]
Thanks Sharon for the tip on how to launch it in AP2 - learn something new every day on here! ;)
As for displaying the taskbar when in AP2 just press the Windows key on your keyboard and it will appear - think that's what they mean.

Yeah... that is great.... BUT can we launch the magnifier without touching a keyboard?

I don't see how, as there are no "User defined" buttons in AP2 - now ... there's a thought....
The obvious way would be some sort of link to the exe for the magnifier but this doesn't work or automatically reverts us to the desktop. I want a magnifier I can just click and it appears in AP. Suppose we'll just have to wait for AP3.

If you use the actual program file link to link it into a flipchart page it opens straight away as a magnifier on the page.
Right click on page (or go to properties for an object)
Go to Insert/Link object ( or to actions, open embedded doc or file)
Navigate to C drive/ Program files/ Virtual magnifier/ the magnifier icon
It should open straight away on your flipchart page

I had already tried that and I found that it minimised AP2 (or AS2) and took you back to the desktop. It seems to work over other programs, but not with Promethean software.
I wonder if your settings are different if it is working with yours?
I've got the same problem as Sharon.
