I've just used a mic to record for a flipchart for the first time (behind the times, I know!) but I'm having real problems trying to access the recordings.
As soon as the words were recorded they appeared as a sound icon and I dragged them all in to the resource library and named them. The problem is that I want to link an object on the page to the sounds I recorded, but when I browse for the sounds, nothing's there. I just get an empty folder. However if I go to where I saved them in resources I can still bring them up on to the page. Surely there must be a way to do this?! ???? ???? ????

Go to ...
Settings..
Recordings...
Tick either Save to Disk or Both
With these settings, the program gets you to save the file before recording and it names it correctly as a .wav file in the folder that you select. Otherwise, if you just record to screen then drag it into the library, it names the extension .as2 and then you can't link to it as a sound file.
The ActivPrimary2 folder in my documents and then the My collections folder and then your own sub-folder e.g. My Sounds, would be a good place to keep these recordings.

Right changed it! The only problem is that the reason I was recording words is because I had a German student in with me and we were teaching the chldren colours. She recorded the words for me after school and now she's gone....and she's not coming back! Does this mean that I've got no chance of doing this easily? Or am I just going to have to make the sound icons large and transparent so that they sit invisible in front of every colour? *sigh* that's going to be time consuming!!
Thank you sooo much for your help though! Now I know and I won't make that mistake again! You're great! [clap]

OK, I know I'm being a pain now, but I have one last question. When I click on something that activates sound, the blue box pops up. If I move it out the way to the bottom, it won't stay there, it always reverts back to the middle of the screen. Is there any way of moving it out the way permanently?

I don't understand why it doesn't stay where you dragged it to, I drag mine away from the middle and it stays put.

fraid so - the only way round it with your new settings applied is to get the flipchart up with the sounds and re-record them by playing the old sound whilst the recorder is running - you will have a slight drop in quality and don't sneeze or anything. You may also find you pick up the sound of the mouse depending on how exactly you're doing it.
Or am I just going to have to make the sound icons large and transparent so that they sit invisible in front of every colour?
Good idea - if you arrange the icons first, then control and click on each one to make a multiple selection, you can then change the transparency of all the selected objects at the same time.

It stays out the way while it's playing, but as soon as I click on another sound, or even the same sound again, it moves back. :( It's a pain, as the recordings are mostly one word. As soon as I've moved it, it's finished playing. Maybe it just doesn't like me...

Do I hear wedding bells? Will Margaret have to buy a hat? Are we to witness the first forum wedding? Hope we'll all get an invite.

Can I be a bridesmaid? :D Seriously, though when I needed to do this, I put the computer speakers facing towards each other with the microphone in between them and re-recorded the sounds I wanted. the drop in quality was minimal and didn't take long.
Just let me know the date of the wedding so I can get my hair done!

I already made it the long way, thanks Margaret. The children thought it was fabulous. One of the best things about teaching infants...they always think you're a genius when you show them something new. [clap]
Daniel,
[clap] You're Awesome! This is the answer I have been looking for about the sound controller box! Thanks.

Sometimes you can trick Windows by changing the file extension (the 3 letters after the period). Make a copy of the file FIRST and then try renaming it with the .wav extension.
For your second question, in the Mac version, we can go into are preferences and untick a box and make to sound play without showing the player which I am assuming is what the blue box is.
