Hello

Haven't posted for absolutely ages... hope everyone on here is well :)

Has anyone encountered a problem with this file? I have installed ActivStudio 2 - it was v2.0.349 - on my Sony VAIO SR1K laptop. Belongs to me but I use it at school frequently.

Everything works perfectly but when I initially log in I get a "Unable to locate DLL" message box stating that it has looked in a whole list of locations for this file - ActivDRV.dll

I cannot uninstall or reinstall ActivStudio - it won't let me. The program itself, with the board, works perfectly! Just this silly error on boot-up. I have even searched a few different PC's that run AS2 perfectly and none of them have this ActivDRV.dll file on them.

I have the most recent ActivDriver installed too.

Anyone got an idea of how I might fix this??? I know I could go in detail through tech support but if someone has encountered this problem before it would be easier.

Could it be that I have Win 2000 SP4? The driver just says SP1?

Cheers

Paul.

You will need to download and install "windows install cleanup" from microsoft.
Once you install this, launch this app and then force it to completely remove Activstudio.
The do a fresh install.

on a standard install the ActivDRV.dll is installed into C:\WINDOWS\system32.

If it is not there, and doesn't exist anywhere on your system then I would be very surprised if your board worked. I would try cleaning the install as Saha suggested, and reinstalling the driver, and ensure that any antivirus you have running is disabled during this process.

If you run into trouble or want more advise then please contact technical support. We'll make sure it isn't too painful ;)

Hiya

Thank you for the replies, most appreciated.

You are going to think I am going mad, but my other PC where the board works fine DOES NOT have a file called "ActivDRV.dll" on it! I have looked in all the directories suggested by the error and I have used the Windows Search function, search all files and folders.

Hmmm?!

Paul.

My Computer -> Tools -> Folder Options -> View -> Select "show hidden files and folders" and untick "Hide protected operating system files"

I have done that and ActivDRV.dll still isn't there on my laptop that works perfectly with the board.

I will have to force remove and reinstall the software on my own laptop.

On another note, and I guess this should be a tech support one, but I am having trouble getting our old Serial boards (with USB serial adaptors) installed on new laptops, which incidentally are both tablet PC's and both rather fiddly. Is there a FAQ / info link somewhere explaining any additional issues for installing Serial boards through USB?

Thank you :)

Paul.

It does rather depend on the usb serial adapters that you are using. We have one which we recommend as it is has proven to be the most reliable. [clap] [clap] They don't all work because of the intricacy of the needs.... so techie me! ;) ;)

I can't remember what they are called... which is really helpful!! BUT no doubt Stuart or Daniel will pop by
