How do I make annotations/highlightings over word (etc) documents stay on screen? They always disappear after about 3/4 seconds...at least it causes the kids some amusement however!
thanks,
catherine

If you are trying to annotate over Word, have you tired Activmarker?

it's activ marker that's not working for me actually. If I use desktop overlay, it's fine but activ marker stuff disappears after a couple of seconds! What am I doing wrong?

Catherine - I learned about ACTIVmarker through your thread and started experimenting with it. It worked fine for me except that will experimenting I clicked on the desktop annotation icon on the toolbar which made my annotations disappear. However, clicking on them a second time would make them reappear. Could this be what happened in your case?

Thanks for the welcome and intro +wave+ Bill, but I have been lurking in the forum shadows for a while now. Just been a little shy, but couldn't resist jumping in. Learning alot already. Reading the threads open up new ideas and experiments with the software. Must say it is fabulous!!

Hi! What is ACTIVmarker? I've never heard of it. If it is part of 2.5, that explains why I haven't heard of it. The technology gurus in our school's district do not want us to download 2.5 quite yet. I think they want to see if there are any major issues with it.

By the way, are there any major issues with 2.5 that would warrant our waiting to download?

Thanks!!!

Hi Nic,

ACTIVmarker has been around for a while.

Click on the Promethean Guy - ACTIVextras - and you should see it, check it to turn it on.

Then when you open a Microsoft Office Application (word, excel, Outlook, powerpoint.....) you will see a new small toolbar on the righthand side usually halfway up the page.

Curious about this activmarker. I have been just annotating with me reg. pen, etc. How does marker differ? Also can somebody please answer this - I have posted before but found no reply. As a new user I really want to make it easier to pull up my flipcharts, etc., that I will need for each day. Can I save toolbars with resources on them for each day? If so, how do I put my other resources(websites, scanned docs., etc.) on the tool bar? I would REALly love an answer to these. Thus far, I have survived but just minimizing everything on the screen's bottom and bringing it up that way. What a pain if I push the wrong button!!!! Thanks -????

Right Heather... Here goes..

Activmarker : you need to launch this from your Activextras option on your AS toolbar (click on the Promethean Man and Activextras is one of the options) and then when you open Word/Ppoint/Excel Activmarker will appear and you will need to play with this....

As far as your next question goes I am not sure I fully understand... but I will make a stab at it and then you can say if I am not meeting your need!

A flipchart can have as many pages in it as you want. So effectively you cd have something "saved" on each page. ie on one page you could have a web link, on another you could have a map.

If you mean you have something which you want to use continuously you can leave "shortcuts" to docs/annotations on the third column of your toolbar. So for example if you wanted to launch another software application you can drag that shortcut onto your toolbar. A really good tip I saw on the forum somewhere was that if you want to launch a "Bill Gates" program but you want a blank page save this blank page as a master and then link to this master. This gets round the fact that normally you would need to link to a specific document. if you want to just launch an "Office" application.

Now in case you don't know how to leave a shortcut - this is how I would do it.

Find the document/application saved in your "my docs" create a shortcut on the desktop. Drag this shortcut onto your toolbar.

If it is an annotation or something you have created in your flipchart you can generally drag this straight onto the third column from within the flipchart environment.

Just one thought, there is just a small chance that the third column of your toolbar is not visible. Click on the tiny little arrow pointing out towards the right and it will pop out. This is also similar for the resources library if you are not able to see all the resources within the different categories.

Now finally the other way to do all of this.....

You can create pages that are "special" pages if you like. These can be saved in your Flipchart page library. Open your library (pile of books) normally on right hand side of the screen - when you hover your mouse over the different icons down the right hand side of the library you will see a range of different types of resources - one of them is Flipchart page library. The only decision here is whether you save this in your "my library" or the "shared library" - My library is the single little man icon and the shared one is the two little men - both can be seen at the top of the library window....

If all of that looks like gobbledegook (sp?) then go here where some of these things will be much clearer I am sure... Although I couldn't find the Activmarker bit and reckon this is likely to be in the Advanced Skills which will be launched sometime next year I think.

Margaret- Thanks for the reply. Yes, you did help. I knew thee had to be a simple way to put all of my resources for a given week;s lessons on my toolbar. I'll have to play with it! Thans again - clwn
