Hi People,
http://whitespacewhiteboards.blogspot.com/
I feel a bit brave here.... I know nothing about Blogs but thought I would give it a try and found a friendly "way in" and started one, but I need you to help me get it going. I have made it Primary focussed, but to be honest I would be grateful for anyone to blog with
je blog
tu blog
il blog
elle bloge
nous blogon
vous blogez
One friend was so overwhelmed by what I have achieved (do understand she knows me very well, and knows I don't do technology) her response was "Bloggy L" :D :D
If anyone has any experience of blogging with children that would be good. BUT it would be good to get some comments going and maybe we could start up a Blog Centre? Is there such a thing.
Any more info gratefully received! +wave+

Pardon my ignorance but I've not had experience with blogs. I know that blog is short for web log but very little else. What does one do with/to/at a blog

Mike.... you make me feel so much better....I didn't either and thought it was time I tried to discover for myself. My understanding is that a blog is for communication on the web about any topic. Schools - classes have them - you own your blog and you start up a topic and then people contribute (hint) :D and then presumably other topics "grow".
I have heard of teachers using blogs to get children writing - well typing(!) as part of debate/discussion - seems to appeal to the male gender apparently!
Well that is how I understand it!
The reason I felt gently diffident about mentioning it here, was because I wasn't sure whether my knowledge, or lack of it would be exposed (!) BUT then I thought well actually I almost feel amongst friends here and maybe some of us (those of us who are still learning +wave+ !! ) could learn together!

Isn't this a sort of blog? Perhaps the forum was never intended to be a blog but increasingly threads develop and are added to. I must confess the blogging bug has passed me by a bit - perhaps it's a boy thing - I'll ask the tech guys if they're into it....

My understanding of blogs is that a blog is an online diary of a person's life. I don't hink you can interact in someone else's blog. I'd not considereed a blog as I thought I'd have nothing interesting to say :o but then I suspect 90% of all bloggers have nothing much to say either! However I'm sure Margaret's will be a roaring success :D
There's been some discussion of blogs in schools on the NAACE forum.

Have a look at Derek Wenmoth's Protopage http://www.protopage.com/dereksblogshop#
Links about the various forms of social software available on the web.

Okay! Blogs are my speciality! As all my friends are uber geeks, quite a few of us have personal blogs. A blog is a little area for you to talk about your own life or aspects of your life that relate to a specific topic. David Bunting got it right again - except with the interaction part - other people can comment on your blog!
P.S. added you to my homepage (got a list of blogs on there) - hope you don't mind ^_^

I disagree! A forum is a forum where everyone has their say and anyone can begin a discussion. A blog is something more.. personal. Margaret seems to have gotten the gist of it in one of the posts she's made talking about a visit she's recently made - it's a really interesting read if I may say so myself.
Here's an excellent example of one of my friends' blogs: http://jamesomalley.co.uk/blog/?p=190

OOPS! Thanks for the warning Dave. Can you be a bit more specific? This guy is considered to be a bit of a guru in our small pond, and I was planning to splash about his website a bit. However I don't want to end up hopping onto the wrong lilypad :o

The problem with his page is that he's chosen the worst colour of blue possible!! The content, however, seems quite decent.
I'll post up more blog-related links as I come across them. In the meantime, here's a blog I found over at Wired for the MAC fanatics on here: http://blog.wired.com/cultofmac/
With no offence intended, I'd say that DavesBlogShop has been created by someone with a very high skill level but little thought about presentation. It seems too bright, too cluttered, too disorganised. The eye doesn't know where it's meant to go and there's very little explanation about what the various sections are for. If I was looking for something that I was told was on that first page, I wouldn't have a clue where to look.
This is an extremely common problem with IT gurus in my humble opinion.

Being good with IT doesn't always make you good with webdev!
