Hi all
Trying to record my children reading their stories on the IWB via sound recorder. That works really well. But can you then save the sounds you have created? If so how please?

Matt :D

Hi Matthew

It's quite straightforward, though the explanation will seem lengthy.
1. Once your sound is created, you see a sound icon on the page.
2. To save, make sure you are in Design Mode - click on Promethean Man and turn his friend red.
3. Click on the Resource Library (book icon) to open it.
4. Decide where to save the file - Shared Collection - 2 heads or My Collection -1 head.
5. If you are saving in the Shared Collection, scroll down to find the Sounds folder, then either: open the appropriate sub folder e.g. people, or create a new subfolder by clicking on the double white folder icon on the top left of that menu screen. Give the folder a name and click the smiley face.
6. If you decide to save in My Collection, again, you may wish to create a new folder into which to put your sounds, so you could create a Sounds folder, then a subfolder within that in exactly the same way as described in (5).
7. Open the chosen folder for your sound file. Click on the Select tool. Drag the sound file into that open folder - the white area at the bottom of the screen. As you drag over that area, you will see a white 90° arrow with 4 white squares above it. Release. You will be asked to give your sound file a name. Type it into the box, then click the smiley face.
8. You can save other new resources - e.g. digital photos in exactly the same way.
9. The end! +wave+

In 2.5 you will be able to save your sound as an icon on the page and/or save it as a sound file within the resources. This will happen at the moment of recording. This will be so much easier and it means that you can easily link objects to newly created sound too! [clap]

Hi Margaret

Re. new version - Will our created sound files have their saved name appear underneath like the sound files that come supplied with AP2? Because that bugs me!!

Not entirely sure what you mean.... but you can give the sound file any name you want if you don't want to "disclose" the sound file name as part of the activity you want to use it in. Does that make sense??

You could of course go through all those sound files shipped with the product and change those too.

It is a tricky one this, because if you need to link to it you need to know the name, are you saying you don't want it to be there when the sound controller plays? If that is the case, you could disable the sound controller to show during playback in settings.

Then you could have an action button which allows you to stop a sound being played as a separate icon. I have attached the icon which if you drag into your library you could use again and again.

I am not sure I am answering what you want, but you might like this action object anyway! [clap]

Hi Margaret
Now I'm confused!!
I think I didn't explain properly!!
When you record a sound and then save it in a resources folder the file name that you save it as doesn't appear underneath the icon in the resource library toolbar at the bottom of the page (have attached screenshot) - yes you can hover over each icon and it will tell you the filename but it would be handy to have the filename on the toolbar.
Does this make it any clearer - will read your post again and try and understand it - it is half term so have just about switched off, so that could be the problem! :D

Right ....

I think that this will all change with 2.5. The reason that it saves without a name is that it isn't saving it as a sound. I am sure there is a more technical reason for this. BUT currently, ie in your version....

When you save a sound that you have created and drag it into your library, you can drag it out and play that sound. However if you were to try and link to that file you can't 'cos it ain't there! What I don't know is if its not there, because it has no name, or it ain't there because you wouldn't be able to link to it as it doesn't save in a "sound file" format.

When you save in 2.5 you will save it as a sound file and an icon on the flipchart page. So you will be able to drag it out and link to it and yes it is named. [clap]

I thought you meant that when you were doing something with the children like "what does this begin with" when you play the sound it shows the name of that sound file on the screen and so it is a giveaway.

By hiding the sound controller you then forfeit the chance to quickly stop a sound and if you have a long sound file this can be irritating. So when you embed a long playing sound file on a page you could pop the "off" action button there too.

Now you are even more confused.

I think we can safely put it down to the fact that jet lag is still in evidence and that when I return to the UK I can continue to waffle but perhaps less incoherently:confused:

Nope makes full sense to me now! Good news too about how it saves in the new version. Downloaded the icon in previous post but it won't let me open it for some reason!

Thanks Margaret
