Hello, We are trying to find a way to print the notes and the power point that is used with the notes on the same page. This is a trig class, it is for my daughter who has MD and does not have the strength to write the notes fast enough. She does not want to hold up the teacher by asking her to wait for her to finish. When the teacher moves on to the next page the last page is erased, so she has nothing to refer to until after class and she is given a copy of someone elses notes. The staff is trying to figure out how to print the notes from the promethean, saving the teacher time, and allowing my daughter to follow along in real time. This class is taught 2 times a day, she has the latter, so they would print the notes from the 2nd period class and have them ready for her 4th period. This way she could follow along, and keep pace. For example: ewhen the teacher presents example one on the board she writes the step by step solution as she is giving the verbal explanation, our daughter can not write that fast, so she is not at the same place, the teacher needs to move on and erase the page. Our daughter would then have the page already in front of her with the solution that is on the board. So when they get to the step of "ok, try number 3 yourself" she has the notes in front of her like everyone else to refer to. If she does not, the ones on the promethean are already erased. So printing the notes is the what we are trying to do, its just never been done at our school before. Should we download the software to her laptop so the teacher can send the notes as a file? Or print it? Anyone who would like to offer help, we appreciate it.
Thank you.

Hi there.
Not sure which software your child's teacher is using. If it is ActivInspire, the teacher can print the entire flipchart that is created with every page that is saved. There are options to print one flipchart page per sheet of paper or multiple pages per sheet of paper. The teacher can also export the flipchart as a pdf and send it to you so that you can print it at home without having the software at all.
If it is a PowerPoint file, these files can be printed as well.
Hope that help!

It sounds as if they are presenting using Power Point and using ActivStudio or ActivInspire to make notes on the slide.
If actions from the PowerPoint such as sliding in etc, are not needed, the PowerPoint can be imported into ActivInspire and saved with a name to show that it is the original. During 2nd period notes can be made on each page of the flipchart and saved with a different file name. The flipchart can then be printed for the student that needs it or also for use with students that may have been absent and missed the classroom presentation.
ActivStudio also allows for doing this by converting PowerPoint to a flipchart.
This method would keep the teacher from having to prepare written notes earlier. I think it would be fairly simple to implement.
Hope this will be useful.

That's a great point!
Another thing that is not often known is that PowerPoint itself does have limited annotation capabilities. You can actually use a pen on a powerpoint slide using the "built in" pen tool. I believe if the teacher uses this pen tool, the annotations can be saved within the powerpoint file itself.
PowerPoint is a great presentation tool while ActivInspire is a great tool for making lessons more engaging (participation-oriented students.) I use both depending on what I'm trying to do!
But honestly I have moved to ActivInspire as I find it is much more flexible for making lessons vs slideshows. But powerpoint can't be beat for a great automated slideshow with animated text flying in and out.
Here is a screenshot of the pen tool in PowerPoint.

Thank you, I was able to get more information to add...She does use activestudio, she uses power points then writes over them while she is presenting the solution/ step by step instructions. We do not want to make more work for the teacher, but our daughter needs the notes, its in her iep that she is to recieve the notes to follow along with. They just did not figure out how to do it, lol, Im trying to help because this is a fast moving class, it is so important to learn math in real time, getting the notes after a lesson does not work. She is 6 weeks into the semester and they still have not figured out how to do this and she has been patient but it is affecting the amount of time she has to spend after the lesson putting the pieces together. When she gets the notes from a student in 2nd period it makes it much easier for her to follow, but that is not consistent either, so printing from the promethean has been decided by the team to be the best way, convenient for the teacher and most accurate for my daughter. Feel free to chime in, anyone. I am open to suggestions. Maybe one of you have had a similar issue. I should add that our daughter is also visually impaired, she has blind spots from a complication during her spine surgery. So having the muscle weakness and vision problems really slows her writing and copying capabilities down, but to be clear, it does not affect her intellect at all. Just wanted to clarify because some teachers suggest moving her out of certain classes because she can not write the notes and work fast enough. She does however do the same amount of problems as the class, always, and yes it does take her longer. We are just trying to minimize how her disability slows her down so she can do what her mind is capable of. She feels frustrated when the suggestion of moving to an easier class is made. She currently has a b in the class without the accommodations being fully met, and maintained an 93 last semester in advanced geometry. But there did not seem to be as much writing in that class. ....Thank you all for trying to help!! Lisa

I know most of you are teachers, I didn't mean to offend anyone, I was just tying to explain the situation. I thought the more information you had the better chance someone would have suggestions as to what we could do different...
Thank you,

problem is, if they print the desktop flipchart it won't print the background, ie the powerpoint.
One thing they could do, is use activmarker - an app that can be found from activextras, this puts the annotations into the ppt itself. They they could save that from the earlier lesson, print it with the annotations on it & use that for your daughter.

It would be much easier if the teacher Imported the PowerPoint presentation into the ActivSoftware..
The animations and transitions would be lost, but the annotations can easily be Saved and printed.
Alternatively, maybe the teacher could print out the PowerPoint slides for the student BEFORE the lesson so she can annotate over them during the lesson.

Hello again,
We just met with tech dept and staff at the school, they have both, activeinspire and activestudio on the classroom computer. The teacher is currently not using either one, she uses power point and then writes with the notes on the board ( not using the power point pen). They said it would require some work to convert her power points to a different method of presentation and the teacher has not been trained on activeinspire or studio.

I'm sorry to hear that, it doesn't sound as though they are being very helpful.
It would be very easy for them to do as Hilary suggests in inspire
just open it up, click file/import/ppt
then just switch on the pen tool & annotate on the pages as they move along, then save/print. I don't think that really requires much training!

Given the lack of support from the tech staff, and the teacher's unwillingness to use the Activboard software, I think my suggestion to "print out the PowerPoint slides for the student BEFORE the lesson so she can annotate over them during the lesson" is probably the best for now.
Best wishes to your efforts to get equity for your daughter.
Hilary
