I am a trainer in a rural state. One of the frustrations of many of my schools is the lack of resources for agriculture teachers. I am wondering if anyone has any resources or a direction to point me in to help ease their frustrations, I have scowering Promethean Planet for the last hour and have not had any luck.

We could build some resource packs together for ag students. I'd be happy to work with you. Can you give me some specific things that you would be looking for?

Hi.
I know of one resource pack that might be of use (it is UK specific but it might have something that you can take from it) - titled 'The English Countryside', which is a Planet resource pack. (http://www.prometheanplanet.com/server.php?show=ConResource.13680)
As Lisa has said, let us know what sort of resources you had in mind, e.g farming in general, dairy, etc.

Thank you Lisa and Liam,
I will be working with these teachers in the next couple of weeks and I will get a list together and reply when I get content specifc information from them. I know they will be ecstatic to know that Promethean is willing to think about the other curriculum areas. Thanks again![clap]

I am back from training in schools and working with ag teachers, they were so happy to hear that there is a possibility of an ag featured resource pack. They were ecstatic to provide me with a list of things they would love to see, the list is below. Thank you again for taking their ideas into consideration, they can't wait![clap]
List for Promethean Planet
7th grade-
Plant science- Leaf stage, Identification of weeds versus crop plants
Animal Science- Bos Taurus, Bos indicus, sheep breeds, wool types. Maternal versus terminal breeds.
Tool identification- Hammers, nails, measuring tapes, bar clamps. Would be nice to have interactive to simulate measurement and proper technique.
Blueprint reading- extension lines, basic drafting terminology
8th grade-
Safety with vehicles: pulling trailers and amount of material to back of trailer, overpass safety, 3 second and 4 second rules. Using implements safely.
Car care unit- Location of the master cylinder and what it does, Alternator and its use, V-belts and serpentine belts. Exploded view of an oil filter. An exploded view of an engine would be great too, for explaining the use of oil into the galleys and piston movement. Radiator and how it works, travel of fluid into and out of the block.
Safety in the workplace powerpoint: use of hand tools, power tools. A “what’s wrong” would be great in an illustration for all classes.
9 and 10 grade-
Record keeping- definitions and examples of inputs, losses. If I have a partial I think I can build upon it with some time.
Horticulture: Plant identification based on leaves, diseases from insects, mold and rot, maintenance and care of potted plants. Fertilizer formulation, vernalization and water cycle, phases of photosynthesis.
Electricity: circuits, single light, switch. Running wire through conduit, carrying capacities of wire, amperage. Hooking up switches and wiring lights prior to leaving for lab setting. Blank sheet for National Electric code so students can write in answers would be nice.
Welding: spray transfer, shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, Oxy- acetylene welding and cutting. A basic picture with some stuff wrong would work out.
Public speaking: a couple of sheets for doing brainstorming and research ideas.
Small animal care: dissection of dog, cat: digestive needs and requirements for health. If I have a basic on this I can finish it out.
11 and 12 grade:
Engine theory- 2 and 4 stroke, diesel versus gas. Small engines (lawnmower) running circuit. An exploded view of a small engine and the components.
Landscape and design- Pruning trees for growth, guidelines for leveling. Color wheel and blueprints of basic, intermediate and advanced yard work. Guidelines for planting and different species of trees- spruce, oak, pine and pine family, cottonwood.
Concrete- aggregates and size, Portland cement, sand types and amounts. Leveling, rebar tying, interactive leveling and surveying.
Surveying: definition, scope and fore sight, sections, quarters. Land measurement.
Meats: carcass of beef, lamb, and swine. Primal cuts, retail cuts. Cutting up of carcass into retail cuts. ( steaks of ribeye, T-bone, prime rib) Filling out order forms and adding sales tax.
Floriculture/horticulture: Plant species, pinching ends to promote growth, identification based on leaf structure, health of plant.

Whoa! That's a lot of stuff! I'll try to see what I can scare up on these topics. Bear in mind I know absolutely nothing about many of these topics but I'll do my best.
Do you know of any websites that they use already? Ones that might have public domain materials like the US Department of Agriculture?
You'll have to work with me on this, ok?

Good afternon Lisa,
Just got an email from the ag teachers below is a list of places they access their resources.
A number of resources can be found on the glenrose ffa powerpoints: www.glenrosearkansasffa.org/lesson%20plans.htm (http://www.glenrosearkansasffa.org/lesson%20plans.htm)
The Georgia ag education website:
aged.ces.uga.edu/
This website has a bunch of different powerpoints that could be used as base material.
Any of the FFA powerpoints could come from FFA.org
If I could be of any help, please don’t be afraid to ask.
Thanks a million for doing this for the Ag teachers!!!
