My recently re-done room has a large blank space on one of the walls just waiting for my promethean board. What thype of experience(es) should I expect when it arrives - you know - first steps, set up, gliches, etc...

Prior to the installation, you may want to get "inspired" by watching some of the great Teacher Feature videos that can give you ideas of lessons, classroom management or just a general comfort zone!

Here the link to the latest Teacher Feature. From there you can access all of the other ones!

Additionally, you may want to take an introductory course through ActivLearning. These will get you acquainted with the ActivInspire software.

And once you've done that, you may want to check out the Activtips videos. (I'd start at the bottom of the scrolling list as they were created first and are the most basic ones.) If you have iTunes and an iPod (video) you can watch them offline!

Do you have any hands-on training planned?

I would download the 60 day trial version of the program as well and start playing with it (especially if you take the online course.) You can upgrade to the full version when your board arrives. That way you can start looking at all the wonderful lessons that are already created on Promethean Planet.

I would also add that you should visit the Promethean Planet forum on a regular basis. I've found that when I had questions, I could post them and often within minutes, someone would respond with an answer. I also read other people's questions (one's I didn't know to ask) and the responses to them. I learned so much just from this forum[clap]
