Hello, I tried to download Activstudio Professional from the website, but when I try to use the text recognition tool, it says the feature is not available. Is there something else I need to download? The objects recognition works. Thank you,
Lisa

You need to be connected to Promethean hardware for the Handwriting Recognition function to work. It is a licensed piece of the ActivStudio software. If you use it in class with an Activboard, Activhub, etc. it will work straight away.

Lisa,

You may want to consider upgrading from Activstudio to ActivInspire, which is currently a cost free exercise.

The handwriting recognition feature within ActivInspire does not have any restrictions on its use and does not require you to be connected to Promethean hardware in order for it to work.

Thank you. After I posted to the forum, I thought that might be the case. We have new Promethean 100 boards and it was my understanding that we couldn't get ActivInspire. When I downloaded from the planet, there were several things to choose from (resource packs, etc). Should I have downloaded all of them? Thank you, Lisa

My understanding is that the resource packs are all optional downloads.

Each pack contains themed resources: flipcharts, images, sound files, etc that integrate into the ActivInspire Resource Library.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong here:

- ActivInspire is free to download and use on any computer.
- By default, ActivInspire is set to run as the Personal Edition, in which certain features are not available unless you upgrade to Professional Edition.
- ActivInspire Professional Edition is currently free of charge to valid users of Activstudio/Activprimary. You will need to supply your Activstudio (or Primary) serial number to be given an Professional Edition serial number which will unlock all the Inspire features.
- People who do not have Activstudio/Activprimary (ie non Promethean users) can purchase ActivInspire Professional Edition licenses.

Lisa the resource packs where you were given the option of downloading the US or UK version ( I think..) have 249MB of great resources that are an essential part of the Inspire library.
The folder is called "Subjects" in the Shared Library - if you don't have that one in addition to the other 6, then you should download it and Import into Inspire.
The other 6 are: Activities and templates, Backgrounds, Grids, Lesson building tools, Resource packs, Sounds.

Later you can browse the collections of additional resource packs and select the ones you will use with your classes.
