I finally figured out that you had to put the activote devices and activslate on different channels for both to work simultaneously.

Can anyone give me or point out a quick way for me to build activote questions in a non-adhoc mode and get statistics that show the correct answer of a multiple choice question.

Everytime I code a multiple choice question from my flipchart page , after my students finish voting, the results show "no correct answer" even though I coded the correct answer in my flipchart.

I must admit I have not played with activotes much. I am new user using Promethean products for the last 2 weeks.

Saha,

You can go to the Question Master Program in the ACTIVsoftware menu and make flipcharts with questions and answers there.

Start
All Programs
ACTIV software
ACTIVStudio 2
ACTIVvote
ACTIVvote question master...

You can enter your questions, answers, and correct answers here.

I choose not to do anything with the background, then decorate it after the flipchart has been created.

This should sastify your request

Good Luck....

i just reread your post and realized that you can also select(click) on the letter that is the corrct answer and it will show you results as well.

Saha,

I choose not to do anything with the background, then decorate it after the flipchart has been created.
There are options for inserting images while you are using the Question Master, but I am finding it easier to enter just the questions in this mode, then add the images afterwards by opening the Flipchart and editing in the usual way.

QUERY If the questions are moved while editing, do they still function correctly during voting?
ALSO Is there any way to add more questions to the Flipchart, or will any new ones be treated as ad-hoc questions?

Hi Hilary....

Not sure I understand what you mean by moved while editing....
As far as added questions go though....

If you decide to add a page of questions to your already saved "Voting flipchart" thats fine but you need to assign this page as a voting page.

Right click on the page and one of the options is ACTIVote and then question settings. If you fill in the relevant details this will effectively "add" it to the flp.

Hi

If you move your questions you can still ensure that they behave correctly with voting. If you right click on the page and view Activote/question settings. You can select which answer which goes with which label so if they have got confused when moving you can sort them out again.
This could also be used to add further questions to a voting flipchart. Just add the text you want to the page and select the correct text to go into the question, labels & answer sections. You should add A, B etc to the page for your labels. They all need to be individual text objects for you to be able to split them into the different question sections. You need to change the question page type to pre-prepared for this to be enabled.

Another option would be to save your questions when you save your flipchart. When you exit question master you get prompted to save your question master source file. This will save any images, questions, layouts, titles etc that you have used to create your question flipchart. If you go to file/open from you can then find this file (saved as qmf) and open it up. This will bring back all your saved questions etc & you can just add any further questions that you want.

Hope this all makes sense

Thanks for both these answers - I obviously needed to do more exploring! At my age, the hard disk is getting fuller and the CPU is running slower.
I found another way to do this - used Question Master to create a Flipchart with the new questions. With both Flipcharts open, drag and copy the new question pages into the original Flipchart. There is ALWAYS more than one way to do things....

I have some issues with multiple-choice questions (a colleague calls them "multiple-guess") and questions-that-the-teacher-already-knows-the-answer-to and convergent questions.

The attached flipchart shows one strategy that encourages students to request Help, rather than stab at an answer. Provided the voting is for a formative activity rather than summative results, this extends the options and could give the teacher useful feedback.
In Page Notes is some feedback for each incorrect answer.

I have left in another page which may be of some use.

Westlake,

I too have issues with multiple choice questions.

I address them this way:

I give the kids the (math) problem or the whoe test and time to calculate their answers. I then either allow them to answer the question at the end of the test or one question at a time.

I give them a very limited (5-7 seconds) time to give me the answers.

I also do not allow for changed answers in the question settings.

This tends to cut the guess method down....

I have racked my brain and this is the only way I can think of to do it. Maybe someone has a different angle....
