Many teachers in my district have been eagerly awaiting the release of v1.3 in order to fix the issue with annotation over the desktop. I was delighted to see v1.3 released today and even more delighted to see that the primary focus of the release was for annotation issues.

I'd first like to start off with mentioning that there is still an issue with the dreaded "error 1606" during the resources installation portion. The resources install path comes up with "\\" (double back slashes in the path) and even clicking browse and re-browsing to the path does not fix it. I also tried erasing the "ACTIVstudio2ResLocation" key as mentioned here: http://www.prometheanplanet.com/forum/showthread.php?p=59904. If you search "error 1606" on this site you will see how many people run into this issue: http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Aprometheanplanet.com+activinspire+ error+1606&sourceid=navclient-ff&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1B3GGGL_enUS278US278

More importantly, the annotation issue where the CPU usage jumps up to 100% when writing with the pen still does not appear to be fixed. I verified 1.3 is installed and rebooted the computer. As soon as the teacher chose to annotate, brought up MS Word 2003 and started writing, the active inspire process started using 100% of the processor resulting in jumpy writing on the board.

which OS are you running it on? I'll take a look at trying to recreate the CPU problem in the office tomorrow.

Hello? Still having a lot of issues with 100% CPU utilization in active inspire. Very frustrating.

Hi

The changes we made to the 1.3 release do appear to have fixed this problem for many users. However, it is clear that it hasn't fixed it for everyone. We are not ignoring this problem & are still looking into how to improve this again.

I am also having this Error 1606 problem with the installation path when trying to install ActivInspire v1.3, either as an upgrade to v1.1 or in addition to ActivStudio. This is also with XP SP3. It seems only to be with the Core Resources part of the installation.

I have found that in some instances changing the resources installation path for Core Resources through Custom Install will allow the software to install (note the double slashes).

C:\\Documents and Settings\\All Users\\Documents\\Activ Software\\Activstudio3

On Tablet XP SP3 this trick doesn't seem to work. However, I have the following work-around: install all elements of the software except the Core Resources through Custom install. Once this is done, run the installer again and select Network Install in the Custom install and enter the above path for the Network Location for the Core Resources destination.

It's worth pointing out that the additional resources installation works with no problem on any computer, so the problem must be a bug in the installer for the Core Resources.

Tim

I've done a little more digging. When the installer is run it unpacks the Core Resources msi into c:\Documents and Settings\%username%\local settings\temp\activsoftware\res\enu. If the msi file is run directly from here, the Core Resources will install into the correct location without any problems. It appears in Add/Remove programs and is seen as having been installed by the main ActivInspire installer.

It seems to be the case that the ActivInspire installer is not always able to set the correct path for the Core Resources, but that the msi is.
