Hi all,

If you click update within inspire you'll find that 1.3 has been released. Here are some details on changes made.

Functionality Changes
=======================
Annotations - All of the annotation engine has been improved. Annotation performance has been the primary focus of this update and should now be improved in all cases. This will include improvements to HWR and Pen/Highlighter/Magic Ink. User should expect to see the speed of annotations improve on any flipchart they use

Thumbnails are no longer updated in real time. Instead they will update upon page navigation or when a new tool/command is chosen using a button or menu item (but not a keyboard shortcut to keep the application as responsive as possible). This is in order to keep interactions on the flipchart page as responsive as possible.

When drawing, annotations are now always drawn with smooth edges if the 'High quality rendering' setting is checked. The option 'High quality rendering when annotating' has been removed and will be ignored when found in existing profiles.

When an object is being moved/rotated on a page, any annotations on the same layer will be drawn without smooth edges where they pass under/over the moving object. The annotations will then be smoothed again when the object stops moving.

Performance in Desktop Annotate mode is greatly improved on Windows Vista and Mac platforms.

I have Vista on my home laptop. I went to the dashboard to update. It says there is one. I clicked for it to run. I got an error message (lengthy one) that says that it is not a valid windows 32 bit application. Help!

Hi, I have Inspire already, so tried to upgrade from ActivInspire\help\check for updates, but an error window pop up (a screenshot attached). I am using school's wireless network, is that the problem?

is the message appearing as you download or after you download & try to run the exe?
If it is the second then I would download it again, sounds a bit like a dodgy download

You'll need to put the school's proxy settings into the "Online Settings" section of the Inspire preferences.

The on screen keyboard still doesn't work for me in Snow Leopard :(

Was also hoping I might be surprised to find a quick look plugin had appeared, but no such luck.

Also, "Import from PDF, Digital Camera, Scanner, Visual Presenter" is listed in the "What's new in 1.3" page and includes PowerPoint and TWAIN . I thought they must now be on all platforms, but are still Windows only as far as I can tell. Is there a list somewhere of the features that only exist on one platform or another?

Thanks,
Mark

Hi

on the mac inspire uses the OS keyboard & not an inspire specific keyboard. It might be that mac have changed the name of this. If you go into the preferences/user input & browse to the mac keyboard this should work (I don't currently have my snow leopard up & working to check this out I'm afraid)

I was hoping that the new update would allow me to index my resources without crashing Inspire, but it just crashed again. :(

Any suggestions?

Spot on. Console says "The file /system/library/components/keyboardviewer.component/contents/sharedsupport/KeyboardViewerServer.app does not exist". Not sure where to point it to fix it though, /System/Library/Input\ Methods/KeyboardViewer.app looked likely, but didn't work.

For now I can open it from the Keyboard & Character Viewer menu extra, but it would be nice to be able to open it from within Inspire.

Thanks!

I couldn't find that file, so I just started the index process and ignored the computer when it said the software was not responding. When I returned a few minutes later, it had finished and now it works.

Thanks!

Why not have the keyboard option in the bar at the top (taskbar) then all you do is open it from there???

Great[clap], I was able to do a drawing class using Inspire today ( I've been having to use Studio).
I was also able to draw my own images for a flipchart I'm working on.{}

No luck for me on the PC - when I run the patch, I get this error message after I click install (once the status bar is nearly complete)

No problems installing for me on an XP SP3 PC.

I just want to double-check - these updates are not cumulative, are they? I don't need to run all the updates in order to get the latest version?

Louise Chew

no, just installing the last update will do the trick, you can miss out ones that you might not have updated to.
(ie its ok to upgrade from 1.1 to 1.3 for example)

Did this release fix the actions problem when being emailed? Currently, my jeopardy game will not keep the pages linked when emailed and supposedly this was a bug. Was this fixed?

Thanks

I am using Landesk created distribution package to install on school workstations. Many worked fine but on some it hung in install. When I remoted to one of the PC workstations error box appeared get mydoc path error. It happened on about 5 machines. What could this be?

Hi, Shirley..

I'm unfamiliar with your setup, but this might apply..

In our setup, our users have their My Documents folder redirected to drive H: (the home folder mapped at login).

If you are deploying the software, it's possible that the MSI is grumbling that it can't find H:

We have so many MSIs that grumble at our redirected My Documents/Desktop/Start Menu/Favorites/Pictures, that I now run a script which temporarily resets these redirects back to the "factory default".

Gerard

Hi
My flipcharts keep not wanting to open I work on a mac. Every time I go to check for updates my computer it says there is a problem with my proxy settings. I have checked this with tech t our school and there shouldn't be any problems. Is there a way I can access these updates from the website?
Look forward to any help

Hi again Sarah,
Your techie may need to put in some magic numbers to allow access to download the update file, or maybe you could go online off-site and bypass the school server which may be causing the problem.
Alternatively, someone in your area with a Mac may be able to share the downloaded update file with you - have a chat to Sarah Biddiscombe maybe?

I wonder why your flipcharts won't open - it might be worth uploading one to the Forum so we can check it.
