????I was goofing around with the flipchart screen recorder and recorded a humorous little chart that I made. It plays fine within Windows Media Player on my computer. However, I sent it to a few faculty members to test it and it won't play in their Windows Media Player. I looked in the options settings of their players and .avi is selected but all that plays is the audio portion. No video.

Our goal as a district is to provide students with the opportunity to access our lessons and charts if they are absent. We are wanting to record our charts then post them on our district site or on You Tube and even Teacher Tube for them to view. Is there a setting that I am missing? I certainly hope that this is not linked to them having to download a flipchart viewer or some similar piece of software.

An .avi file should play in Windows Media Player. Isn't the purpose of the flipchart screen recorder to do just that? Any help would be greatly appreciated. ????

I need the same help. We are working on the same thing. In ActivStudio, you could choose the video settings and change them. Where can I find this in Inspire?

I can only find where it saves the file and it only gives me the option to save as .avi. THis should play in any Windows Media Player but it doesn't. I can play it on my laptop and my classroom computer but no where else. My fear is that it has something to do with using ActivInspire. Does that need to be on the viewing computer as well? If so it defeats the purpose of screen recording.

If you’re using the default recorder settings in ActivInspire your AVI will have been recorded using a video compressor (codec) from a company called Techsmith.
The Techsmith codec is automatically installed with ActivInspire.
To play your AVI back on other computers without Inspire you may need to install the Techsmith codec which is available here…
http://www.techsmith.com/download/codecs.asp (http://www.techsmith.com/download/codecs.asp)
(click the ‘Download TSCC Codec’ link.)
Another option is to try recreating your screen recordings using a different codec. To change codecs, on the Inspire Screen Recorder toolbox, click on the ‘M’ button, then choose the Video settings icon. This will let you access the list of Video Compressors installed on your computer (there should be quite a few to choose from). One to try is the Microsoft MPEG-4 Video Codec.
The Microsoft MPEG-4 codec is more common and is possibly more likely to be available to other Windows computers.
NB. Some codecs don't work properly. I'm afraid it's trial and error. If you choose a codec that doesn't work, the ActivInspire Screen Recorder will return an error number when you start to record. If this happens, simply switch back to a codec that you know works.
